Directed by Jon Chu.
Starring: Adam Sevani, Alyson Stoner, Rick Malambri, Sharni Vinson, Keith Stallworth, Kendra Andrews, Stephen Boss, Joe Slaughter.
Plot: A tight-knit group of New York City street dancers, including Luke (Malambri) and Natalie (Vinson), team up with NYU freshman Moose (Sevani), and find themselves pitted against the world’s best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.
Pretty much a Streetdance 3D clone I thought (but with better dancing). Weak and largely predictable plot – Is there really only one thin plot shared amongst all the dance movies now?
I enjoyed watching the dancing, and Sharni Vinson who was a very attractive female lead. Nice to see NYC again as well – though it does seem to feature in so many movies I see these days!
Even though I thought the dancing in this was better than in Streetdance and I scored that as an 8 out of 10 – I can only bring myself to give this 4 out of 10 and I’m not sure why, as both plots were fairly lacklustre!!
Maybe it was sitting in that huge traffic jam on the way to Boldon and the 40 mile + round trip.
Very weak story line but some great dancing!
I found it really hard to care about a lot of the pirates and so was not at all emotionally involved in this.
6/10 from me.
So sorry, prettyxcool! I didn’t realise that you were waving at me to indicate that there was an empty seat close to you.
Did anyone else have problems watching the film with the 3D glasses? I was really struggling this time. I’m not sure if was due to the angle, the reflection on my specs or my lazy eye. I just couldn’t see straight.
As for the film, I really enjoyed the dance moves. I like watching dance crews, surprisingly. Consequently, it didn’t bother me too much that the story line was very weak. 7/10
Ah, I wish there were a UK version of "America’s Best Dance Crew" on TV here.
I think cineworld shaftesbury avenue was 100% full. I hope there weren’t any fmukers turned away. They were asking for ID but not to sure how strict they were being on this and they didn’t do a serious bag search or take our phones.
Seeing the main female lead, I’m even more convinced with my theory that these young home and away stars have a savvy agent with direct links to Hollywood. They all seem to be popping up in various American films.
I liked this film (would have been better with Channing!) but it was a fair follow-on from the first two films. Dancing was great but as others have said the storyline was very weak, even boring. 3D effects were also good. 6/10 – sorry but the storyline was too bad for me to score it any higher.
I also had a bit of a problem with the 3D, particularly at the beginning (felt a bit blurry and gave me a bit of a headache) but I then got used to it. I usually love 3D and never have a problem. Was wondering if it was a problem with the screen or the glasses we were given (they seem like the cheap version, most of the time when I’ve seen 3D films I’ve been given the more sturdy type of glasses – not sure if this makes any significant difference).

No worries, as I said before, it was pretty dark in there, and by the time you arrived I had acclimatised!
Yeah, I think my OH had problems too as he wore it on top of his own glasses and was complaining afterwards, and I think he wished he had never came after all. Glasses often give me a headache as they keep slipping off as I don’t have a bridge, so not too fond of them, but this time I found a way to wear it comfortably and enjoy the 3D, so I almost forgot about them, once I got used to them.
Thought this was a great film, saw it in cineworld in glasgow, rather packed hall! Only thing that ruined this film was the ushers doing the obligatory walk up and down the aisle/stairs from time to time.
8/10 for the film
I saw this in Milton Keynes. On arrival, we were warned that the film may start (and so end) late if they could show it at all, as they were having problems with the projector. There were two security type people at the door of the cinema, and I expected to be searched, but they only asked that phones were switched off or put on silent.
As it happened, the film started on time, but we did not have any of the trailers as asked about in the Tellten questionnaire. I missed my London film friends, but met up with Chris525 who is doing a tour of cinemas in the South East. Was anyone else from FMUK there?
Our screening was about 80% full and I was not aware of them checking for people recording during the film. There were a lot of young children in the audience, and I was surprised at how good they were.
I like watching street dancing, but do not have any technical understanding. I could not work out why one person or group was according to the story better than the other when I felt that the exact opposite was true.
The 3D effects were really weird. In fact at time they were quite macabre – the elongated limbs and neck stretching towards the audience was grotesque. Perhaps they were experimenting with 3D effects for the next 3D horror film – have there been any yet?
Overall, I thought that the start of the film was quite good and so was the end – it was the section in the middle that was the problem. The story line was not strong enough to hold the dance sequences together and as a result, the whole film suffered.
Went to see step up 3d last night wow! can they dance!! I’m not a fan of 3d films and although some of the dancing with the 3d glasses on looked too fast i realy enjoyed it.
Scott Pilgrim v the world soon can’t wait!
I got turned away from Cineworld Shaftsbury Avenue because it was full, I saw quite a few other being tunred away too. :’(
Note to self do not wait for sister again! lol
BTW, did anyone else notice that one of the guys from "Glee" was in the film?
i normally love dance moves but this was the worst of the bunch…the lead male was no channing tatum and the storyline was boring and cheesy…didnt enjoy it at all, big thumbs down from me. 2/10
yeah it was the oriental guy (the no bones one) right?

Yup same guy.
Totally weak story line, but I liked the dancing!
6/10
nah it was so lame…streetdance had a better storyline and ive seen way better dance routines on randy Jackson best American dance crew…also some of it wasnt even in 3D as i took my glasses of and it was normal!!!
I got turned away too, but it all fairness, i got the tickets off the ‘offered’ forum and they were checking ID’s and apparently it was full..
better luck next time
At Cineworld, Edinburgh we were told to stand in a long queue in the foyer as screen 10 would not be ready until 6.25pm. Two security guys on the door when we were finally allowed in but no searching of bags etc.
Got two trailers – one for a film I have forgot the name of – and one for Scott Pilgrim v The World. I have tickets for this but now that I have seen the trailer don’t think I’ll enjoy it.
The 3D effects were good in parts and rubbish at other times. Like the dancing so it was worth watching but a very predictable storyline. 6/10

Well after reading everyone elses reviews, maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing after all
Hello
5 minutes escape from the phone – aargh!
I saw this last night in Edinburgh and like Biggins stood in a very long queue outside the cinema until they decided to let us in at 6.30. We then sat for another 10 minutes and then we got two trailers. The other was the Zac Efron dead little brother story something about a Cloud I think?
I have to say I agree with milkchocolatemoney – what a pile of pants. The dancing was impressive but the script, dialogue and acting were anything but. At one point I thought the two leads were reading autocues in a scene where they were talking to each other!
I also took my glasses off at one point and yip, it made no difference so seems only parts were 3D.
I’m very glad I didn’t pay any hard earned cash to see this.
2/10 from me.
This film was AMAZING!
I went to Shaftesbury Ave screening last night. Got there just before 6pm and there were only a few people in front of me in the queue. Shortly after, they let us through, checked for ID. There were 2 ‘security’ type people making sure your mob was turned off before entering the screen. We promptly took our seats in the middle-middle where we usually sit (middle row, middle seats) and our row soon filled up. Was not able to get up and around let alone a good look around or see ANYONE
Was surprised to see how many tweens/teens turned up for this one, though it is understandable why. On a good note – I had a little girl sitting in front of me – so no head blocking my view, which often does happen as I am small!
Film was overall very lacking in dialogue, but the dancing was great, though once you’ve seen the moves, there’s nothing more special about it. I was disappointed that the leading character Luke, hardly did any dancing. He did a few bits in the battles as part of the whole crew, in the background I may add, but nothing much solo. Apart from the semi-parkour stuff he did on the rooftop with Natalie as part of ‘training’. I too was surprised to see that oriental guy from Glee too. Did anyone else spot another face?? The girl that played Moose’s best friend/gf was the girl featured in the Missy Elliot video for ‘Work It’ (wearing a white trackie). I know that the guy who battled Moose in the park at the beginning of the film danced with Madonna on two of her tours and won the BBoy Championship 2009 as part of the USA crew, together with the guy who played Carlos. The Carlos spot goes to my bf. I wasn’t too moved by the 3D either, bf enjoyed it more than me I think…
Overall 6.5/10 from me, my bf may give it a higher mark.
Her name is Alyson Stoner – done loads for Disney including Camp Rock etc. Oh and the Cheaper by the Dozen films!

I didn’t know she did stuff for Disney (no kids, so unaware of these things)! I just remember her from the Missy Elliott vid

Joys of having a 14 year old daughter!!
I loved it thought it waaaaay better than Streetdance which I though was boring and the lead girl annoyed me. I know the story wasn’t great but the dancing was amazing and it has a really good soundtrack, I can’t get that Flo-rida and David Guetta song out of my head.
Yeah lacked in story, but I think that may have made it better for me because all I wanted to see was the dancing which was executed very well indeed.
Would love to see this film
Security was tight, they kept checking seats and wanted to see you turn off your mobiles before letting you in. No bag search.
I enjoyed this film – maybe because I am biased! Love all dance films. I know it was predictable, and as my OH says "there is no story, it is just dancing!" – duh, it is a dance film. Reminds me how much I also miss those Hollywood classics with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
I thought the dance sequences were great, the film was fun and heartwarming and made me happy and want to dance. My friend and I felt like going clubbing afterwards!
9/10
I was in the back row too but I don’t know anyone apart from Beate and A_person. thought I saw her and was goinng to text but that wouldn’t have been a good idea
Mind you someones phone went off for ages during the film whilst they hunted for it in their bags
I didn’t rate this film much. I thought the dancing was ok, but I prefered the other dance crews not the Pirates. The 3D effects freaked me out, they were so strange, made the dancers look like freaky puppets. The leader of The Pirates was far too old to be hanging with street kids and couldn’t dance to save his life. Was he chosen cos he has a small resemblance to Channing Tatum? Those twins made Jedward look normal
Shame really as I do enjoy dance movies and dance comps. I tought Street Dance was so much better with better dance sequences. I’m not too big a fan of Breaking, Body Popping and all the old dance moves like The Robot. I much prefer Dance Crews like Flawless and the more synchronised type of dance. However I loved the Tango and the first dance off with the dust flying around I thought that crew were the best.
5/10 and thats mostly for the shorties dancing
Were you left or right of the screen? a_person was one seat from the end on the left. I was two seats from her towards the middle of the row with milkchocmonkey behind me.
Hope to say hi next time then. I have my badge on so do look out for me!
I wasn’t there. I was stuffing my face at a post corporate barbecue do!

I was to the left in the middle. I managed to be the first in the queue so I decided to sit in the back row. I don’t usually though. Will look out for you next time. I’m going to Black Dynamite as someone has invited me vx

We thought this movie wasn’t too bad.
It was obvious I thought the story it was going to follow even before it started and without seeing any trailers or synopsis, so we went simply for the enjoyment of the film and the dancing….which was good!
For this reason I think the film was 7/10….obvious, predictable, but still enjoyable
