More tickets available, but I can’t get to any of the cinemas. I’m truly gutted. I’ve had tickets from both of the Momentum screenings previously, but had to miss them both at the last minute.
Now, when I’m finally free to go, I can’t find a cinema close enough to get to from work!!!!
Gory and gruesome in parts, the movie had quite a few really scary moments….Re-iterating what Ebert seems to have said in his review – I thoroughly enjoyed the movie when I watched it the cinema but it doesnt quite feel the same way an hour later…Good escapist fare or ‘masala’ as we call it in Bollywood terminology

Didn’t quite think JF deserved his redemption…

7/10 for me…
I just got back from Sheffield VUE.. Thought it was pretty awesome!! Didn’t like the ending though.. And there were a few jumpy moment (you guys know which bit I’m talking about!)..
Overall I give it a 7/10.. Never really get to see good action thrillers these day, this was a pleasant surprise!
This is definitely a film that men would prefer, although for an action film, I managed to follow the story pretty well! I did have to look away at quite a few gory parts, like other people have said, but it was a good story and well acted. I also jumped at one point, which was quite embarrassing, although my husband told me other people jumped too!
Quite enjoyed this one although agree with others that the ending wasn’t as well crafted as the first 2/3
8/10 from me
Ridiculous, stupid, fun film. Saw the attempts to get people jumping coming a mile off.
7/10
Saw meets Silence of the Lambs!
3 out of 5 but only because Gerard Butler gets his kit off.
I can’t remember if I talked about this when I saw it, a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was a silly film, with far too many plot holes, plus I could see what was coming a mile off. It did look nice and glossy with eye candy for the ladies LOL.
Ultimately it was still better than the last couple of films I’ve seen
I turned to Mr Boop 3 minutes into this film and said "I dont think Iam gonna like this!" I thought it was way to shocking and the fact that I am a woman and have children really made me feel the emotion of the first 3 minutes of it all………………..having said that managing to stay seated through that I throughly enjoyed this film and found the revenge most helpful!
Okay, having finally seen the film now I was able to guess the bit that made everybody jump – and we now have conclusive proof that mobile phones are bad for your brain…
I am also a little surprised that more people didn’t see something coming at that point given that they had all just been forced into conspiring to subvert the law which was pretty much the Gerard Butler character’s main point (although I have to admit that I didn’t guess that it would happen the way that it did happen)
As for the film itself, it’s enjoyable enough if you can switch your brain off and just go along with it. If you start thinking about it too much various plotholes and problems do start to creep in, so it really depends on what kind of level of entertainment you’re looking for that particular night (the audience at my screening certainly seemed to enjoy it).
wow i loved this film but didnt enjoy the ending at all. I really felt for him and didnt like the fact JF got away with starting the whole injustice mess. I really expected something to happen at the end and felt a little let down. How bad is that when we want the bad guy to win, though its not so straight cut as i could see where he was coming from.
not a bad film. Also thought the ending wasn’t great. but definitely worth it as it was free
To be honest, I find it a bit disturbing to read so many times that people didn’t like the ending and wanted him to "win" – what, kill more people? Killing is wrong, an eye for an eye is wrong. Yes, he had suffered injustice, but that doesn’t give you the right to behave like that yourself! He said himself, you have to be accountable for your actions, well that was what happened to him in the end, it was fitting because that’s what the whole film was about.
It’s a morally ambiguous film no doubt, but in the end Jamie Foxx was a complete, well, swear word, he decides to go for a quick deal so as not to mess up his pretty little file, which in turn destroys Butler as a human, one small meaningless number for a human’s humanity is a bit of a high price in itself, making the murder, well, not justified by any stretch, but certainly understandable for a man pushed to such a limit, although in all honesty I think a public statement and moving on would have been easier.
I find what andrews’ posted in the Lovely Hearts trailer to be more disturbing. It seems the more audiences hate a villain, the more bloodthirsty they get. Take Percy’s fate in the Green Mile, or the end of Inglourious Basterds…
Although fictional, I sympathised with him because he went through a tough time. He made really valuable points about the injustice in systems. Everything is political. I don’t agree he should have killed as many as he did but to be honest, killing the one who killed his wife/daughter… well they had it coming. If they weren’t so brutal in the first place, then he wouldn’t have retaliated. If the killers were put behind bars or had the death penalty applied to them that would have been acceptable but it wasn’t. A young innocent child is killed for no reason whatsoever and the murderer should be allowed to live on the street with the rest of society while the parents are supposed to be okay with that?
It would have been nice to see justice for him in the end. In the end, he just wanted to be let off free and why shouldn’t he? The others were allowed so why should injustice then apply to him only? Even though, all of his murders were pre-meditated, I would consider it somewhat a crime of passion.
Beate, i dont think people wanted him to win, i know in my case i didnt like the way he died. I would rather he lived and explained his actions and legally something could be done about the justice system but that wouldn’t have made a block buster.
I dont agree with all that he did though being a mum ,i can certainly see where he was coming from for revenge on the killers.
As for Jamie Fox he deserved his comeupance not death!! but omg he was promoted to district attorney. He was rewarded for his lack of human decency caring about his record more than justice. Where was the moral in that part of the storyline
Fantastic film. So true that politics are more important to some than ethics and being moral.
Jamie Fox did say he could have lost the trial and both men would have been out of prison, do you think that would have happened? If so the whole story would have changed. Maybe Gerard wouldn’t have killed so much but then Eamon and his friends probably would have. Film for thought!
Thought Gerard, as hot as he is, struggled with his americam accent a little.
Well I am bloody shocked to see that this film has received a ghastly 23% from 100 notable critics on rottentomatoes. Most of us here has enjoyed it, its no perfect film. Critics really demand a lot dont they? I feel sorry for most of them, they can never enjoy a film for what it has to offer and instead probe its flaws and magnify them! imdb has given it a more respectable 7.3 though because methinks they are normal film lovers like us

agreed, it was atleast 7/10 for me! critics know nothing!
Great film
I really enjoyed this film and was surprised to see it getting so many negative reviews!
I think it’s getting the bad reviews because it’s so OTT but hey thats why we go to watch films in the cinema (sometimes anyway)
