Good grief, 9.45am, is that another press screening?
I doubt it, not that close to the release…. Maybe it will be all school children!
Is it half term? Or do they do school trips to the cinema these days?
For this film they probably do… they did it for Lesbian Vampire Killers for 16-18 group!
This would be a far better use of time than Lesbian Vampire Killers ever could be.
Seems a bit early to appreciate the film though.
Anyone here?:
AYBG should be giving us his review for this shortly!
Right you are.
Blown away by this film. No, it wasn’t just the onomatopoeia. In addition to being the most technically brilliant film since Eternal Sunshine, there’s something the film shares with Toy Story 3 that no other movie this year has come close to matching: a boat load of heart.
This was a very intelligent film in more ways than one – Edgar Wright has truly levelled up, and the story is very meaningful (if you know where to look).
There’s something for everyone: it’s a musical with fight scenes, or is it an action movie with a lot of music? Credit to the cast for keeping up, especially Michael Cera who brings phenomenal range to the titular character (which should put his doubters to bed once and for all).
I feel sorry for anyone who didn’t like it – on Facebook I just implored everyone aged between 12 and 30 to see it, because it’s the movie of the generation. But don’t let that put you off if you’re not in that age group – as one review wisely said, even if you don’t get one joke you’ll get the next. You really don’t want to miss out on such a unique film. For the uninitiated, quite a lot might strike you as strange, but just roll with it and you’ll have a blast.
9/10
A, Why didn’t you score it 10/10? Just curious why it’s missing the plus one.
Maybe 10/10 from AYBG means a movie was perfect, and that word was not used in his review?
I saw the ad on the TV yesterday and it reminded me how good the soundtrack is
Has he ever rated a film 10/10?!
Cue twilight zone music……ooooh
My friend who I brought along is the second person in the clip, the girl. Hurrah she’s FAMOUS!
They tried to get me to follow her and I was like "are you joking?". You won’t get me on camera if you paid me.
Yeah I was thinking about that myself actually. I have no doubt I’d give it 5 stars, but I can’t quite bring myself to give it 10/10. I think it’s because I never thought having all 7 exes in one film would work, and while it worked a great deal better than I expected, it meant that every scene was eventful – there was no time for the scenes in the comic that did nothing but build up characterisation.
Still, I thought the film put a lot of characterisation into what there was, and the ending was brilliant despite differing from the comic (in which the Knives vs Ramona fight occurs books earlier)
Also, the Kim backstory deserved a lot more than the short explanation it got. Adult Swim made an animation for it, totally worth checking out:

Oh it totally is. When I read the first few books, I had Kasabian’s album "Empire" on repeat and it really stuck so I put it on when I read the rest too. I thought that, on a personal level, the film’s soundtrack would inevitably be a disappoint because it wasn’t Kasabian’s Empire! But all credit to Beck and co., they knock it out of the park. In the film you only get to hear snippets of the songs – I’d totally recommend checking out the full album. There’s a channel on youtube that has a lot of the songs:

AHA! I thought I’d seen her before somewhere! You must have brought her along before to something.
Nope I’ve not actually! Maybe she just looks like someone else? She is actually my OH’s work colleague and we’ve not hung out that much.
