Its a masterpiece of film making imho. Scared the bejesus out of me so much that I was looking all round me nervously (and of course stupidly) when I came home alone from watching a late show.

Were you aware of any twists or plot turns before watching it, Beate? If so, well bloody done for avoiding that! For me its right up there with Empire Strikes Back, Planet of the Apes and Usual Suspects for greatest ever plot twists.

Yeah, the first time I watched it I didn't know anything about it apart from the fact that the little one sees dead people. "We only see what we want to see" - too right.

I envy you Weirdo, it took me nearly 3 viewings to really get this film (though I guess I was too young to really appreciate it first time round). Now I just think Brazil is Gilliam's best satirical film but not one I love dearly. My favourite Gilliam will always be Time bandits. But I love Baron Munchausen and Fisher King too.

I watched Rampage, it started a little slow but ended up being quite a good film...although it was rather disturbing!

Night was a fine director back then. I watched one of his first films, Wide Awake a few nights ago and it was a really sweet film about growing up. I really hope he gets back there soon.

I been catching up with the new Doctor Who. Goodness whats Alex Kingston doing tied to this franchise lol? The new Doctor is not bad thankfully, even if he does at times seem like an egocentric public school kid let loose on the poor population during a his gap year.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Didn't see this last night but saw District 9 last Saturday morning, another of the BAFTA/ICA Behind the Mask Screenings at the ICA.

What a brilliant film! Gritty and realistic. A thoughtful piece of science fiction, it felt like it was happening right now, and really something to think about well after the film has finished. Very well acted too, and the CGI of the aliens were so believable. It was all done on a very low budget as well. 10/10

It was introduced by Stefan Drury, a Visual Effects Director with credits like Batman Begin, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Kick-Ass, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Since he could not stay after the film, we had the Q&A before the film! But it was mostly about special effects, so did not have any spoilers for those who had not seen it, including me.

It was lovely to see some familiar faces too in bevvy and tomorrow72. Also anyone seeing a film at the ICA can have a meal deal - organic burger, chips, salad and a beer/wine for £8.95, just show your ticket, even the complimentary ones! o/

Pity the q&a wasnt at the end, there could have been so much more to talk about! Such as will there be a sequel ;) District 9 was superb, Wikus is for me iconic! Amazing, that this was Sharlto Copey's first ever acting role in a feature movie and only did one short film before this which was a short version District 9.
Such a great character, one you pity and dislike while at the same time make you laugh, then grow to love as his consience takes a turn making him morally self conflicted, to and fro, until he makes his ultimate choice to help the Aliens and become a badass action hero kicking army asses no less. The friendship between Wikus and the Alien was so well done too. A modern classic
. Glad you managed to see this on the big screen o/

I watched the last 3 episodes of Smallville (series finale). While the series went on way way way too long, I am satisfied with it conclusion but boy did it take its time getting there and the liberties it took with the DC universe. I just think of it as a DC parallel universe. Was a great fun series though, all the way, if a little TOO beautiful looking regards to the boys and girls faces! But I suppose that's what sells it for so long. Can't believe I watched this series for ten years but it entertained me throughout, as well as flipping fustrated me at the same time. Love the way the series used touches of the John Williams Superman score thoughout the series ever since Christopher Reeves appeared in it as Dr Swan. The first few seasons when Lex was in it will always be the best. He finally came back for the finale which was a relief because I always felt it was about both of their journeys to their ultimate destinies. If the series ended a few seasons ago, I think they might have had a better tighter script for Clark Kent's journey but all in all, I had real blast with it and I feel attached to all of them as I watched them grow up from High School, Smallville to working adults in Metrolpolis.
