My mum went to Ian D. Montfort: Unbelievable at Kings Place last night with the SFF code, she said it was brilliant and hilariously funny, so much so she had tears running down her face, in all a group of 6 went together and have all been raving about it today.
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

I went to this last night as well. He was hilarious! My OH and I both had theories on how it was all done, but so glad we went. Personally I am not usually into seeing live comedy, but this guy was an exception to the rule. 8/10

I like it when people enjoy stuff that they weren't sure about!! Where is Kings Place? I know it's in London, but what's it near?!

Here's my review of Ian D Montfort. I had a good time, but I thought the first half of the show was absolutely godawful. Was contemplating leaving during the interval. Fortunately the second half more than turned things around! Very fun and spooky at the same time.

No idea where to post this so here goes:

Does anyone work or live in Lambeth or Southwark? There's an offer at a theatre I'd like to take advantage off that's for people who work or live in either of these two boroughs.

PM me if you can help, thanks! o/

I had a really good girls' night out tonight! My Sister got 6 free tickets to 'Viva Forever'. We had a nice 3 course meal beforehand (very cheap due to a Voucher!) The Show itself .... I don't think I'd recommend anyone to go and see it, not unless it was free! The story is very slow during the first half. You start to sing along with the famous songs from the Spice Girls, only for the singing to end just as you get going!! It livens up after the interval, but not for long enough! A few people walked out during the second half.

Managed to see In The Republic of Happiness on its final day at the Royal Court Theatre today because of a competition win. The play started off incredibly funny and very much mirrored an old favourite of mine, Season's Greetings.

However, even though it was a one act play, it seemed to consist of three different acts:

1) A family consistent of grandpa, grandma, father, mother and two daughters having a very awkward Christmas dinner. While the family members barely leave their seat this first part is reminiscent of an old school farce.

2) Part group therapy session, part TV talk show? It was trying to be provocative ("trying" being the keyword here) by choice of subjects and by letting the elderly actors sprout vulgar things in response to various questions, ha;f of which didn't even make sense. There were however some excellent songs that summed up the scene that has gone before (which by doing so did make the previous scene largely irrelevant).

3) I have no clue what the last bit was supposed to be... Are two of the main characters just a computer programme? Are they gods? In a psychiatric ward??? If anyone has seen this play and can shed a light on this for me it's much appreciated. As it is I am thoroughly confused.

I think I enjoyed "spot the actor" more than the actual play in the end. I knew I recognised Hazel, but had to Google her afterwards before I realised I'd seen Ellie Kendrick in Cheerful Weather for the Wedding just last week. Other actors in the play include Emma Fielding, Emma Calder-Marshall and Paul Ready (who is very cute).

I'd give the first part a 8, the second a 5 and the third a 6.5, which would give this play an average of 6.5.

This is fascinating, c_t, as this play has been hugely controversial in terms of audience reaction - did you know? Lots of discussion on theatre sites and blogs; also lots of audience walkouts despite there being no interval, which must have been disruptive. I vowed some time back never to see another Martin Crimp play but it's great to hear that you found so much of interest. The publicity must have been good for the Royal Court, too, even if much of it was adverse, as you know what they say...
