Anyone else miss the days of Sky Movies free cinema tickets a few years back? The days when there would be a new screening available with various companies almost every other day, sometimes every day. This site was really bustling back then!

Now we're lucky if we get anything free apart from the odd subscriber/pa*d offer.

:tears:

Yeah, Showfilmfirst seem to be concentrating on shows rather than films!

I miss the O2 tickets they gave us to Neil Diamond and Dolly Parton. I miss coordinating with Doris who was to be on the night watch to claim which tickets.

So, if the point of free previews - and let's face it they weren't out of kindness - was to promote movies and allow word-of-mouth advertising, which is do much more effective than billboards and adverts, then what are the movie houses doing now? There must still be the need for this type of promotion. They still need bums on seats at the end of the day. They won't have an industry if punters don't go.

And they are missing out on the food and drinks sales as a lot of people came straight from work to these screenings.

It was like this 10 years ago when you needed to b*y a magazine, go and collect the free ticket in advance etc, maybe 1/2 a month at the most.
I suspect that they may be revisiting how they go about promoting their films to make sure the intended audience see them rather than just the first people who grab tickets, so people with kids for children films, not just the retirees who can swoop first on Times tickets regardless of the film etc.
Ive seen loads of films I wouldn't have gone to see otherwise because of the free tickets, but if I'm not the target audience, then the film distributor doesn't necessarily want me there. A wee bit controversial I know.
I do p*y to see films as well. I really enjoy the cinema and happy to p*y too as there are loads of great deals with Cineworld snd Odeon cards, Groupon deals etc now as well. I would not p*y £9 though and that's a big point, general admission prices are too expensive.
I'm sure we will see more screenings, I'll just be interested as to how they appear and who can get tickets.
