Flying Monsters 3D
Re: Flying Monsters 3D
I didn't realise this would be so short so the OH and myself were preparing to watch a feature length documentary and I thought it ended quite abruptly. Aside from this, it was a really well done documentary, the 3D was a nice touch and some of the scenery was really beautiful. I did laugh at the scene where Sir David was chatting with the scientist and the fossil came to life jumping around the room and felt a bit sorry for the little fella who ended up drowning after colliding with another of his species. I thought Westfield might have been emptier considering everyone was on holiday but it was pretty full!

i was expecting a cute kind and helpful dinosaur (that made cute noises) to be introduced to us, and we get to watch him live his life from the egg to adulthood. glad it wasnt so!
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
Re: Flying Monsters 3D
Me too, I did notice one mum take her small child out the cinema as some scenes weren't really meant for the little ones, i.e. the large dinosaur carving into the carcass of another oneraj101 wrote:i was expecting a cute kind and helpful dinosaur (that made cute noises) to be introduced to us, and we get to watch him live his life from the egg to adulthood. glad it wasnt so!

Re: Flying Monsters 3D
Greenwich was pretty full. The 3d effects were good and as always Sir A. made the topic interesting. Both my son and I enjoyed this one. We did exect to see another episode, but given the weather I think that the timing was just right.

Oh is this meant to be a new series? The topic is a little limited for that isnt it? I thought this was a one off doc.

Re: Flying Monsters 3D
It is a one-off doc. There are no other episodes. The previews weren't connected to a TV showing but it's cinema release on the 6th May. It's going to be shown at the BFI IMAX and various other cinemas around the country.

Re: Flying Monsters 3D
I made it to the Greenwich screening, which started around 20 minutes late.
It was very good, however I agree that it would have been a good idea to have shown in with another short documentary or film.

Re: Flying Monsters 3D
I saw this at Westfield and am loathe to include it in my film count due to it being so short, but as it will be properly released, I suppose I may as well. I was hoping that it would be a bit longer than the version that aired on Sky at Christmas, but alas. For what it was, I really enjoyed it. There's not a lot to add at this point and I find it hard to grade on my typical film scale so I'll just go 7/10, mostly for how lifelike David Attenborough looked, some great CGI there.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: Flying Monsters 3D
Went to the World IMAX Premiere yesterday. Found out at the very last minute when they couriered the invites to me (not tickets as I was told), that it was a Black Tie event. Luckily we go to a lot of Black Tie events, not!
Was told by the box office when collecting tickets that the back rows in the centre was best, so that was where I headed only to find they were reserved except the back two, so took the central seats in the second back row. Had to go to the loo, so left my coat and jacket to save two seats. OH was waiting for our photos we took earlier on in the foyer with the monsters backdrop. We both got back at the same time to see that my clothes were dumped on one seat and all the seats taken either side. I said to the woman sitting in my seat that I had just gone to the loo and she said I was not here! Huh, what was that about? Never in all the time I have been to a screening when I have saved my seats with my jacket or whatever, someone would remove it to sit there! I told her she was very rude, and looked for somewhere else to sit as it was obvious she would not move, and everywhere was filling up! I managed to ask two couples to move one seat so that OH and I could sit together, and, luckily they kindly did and was really nice about it. I think they were surprised too at what happened.
Just before the intros by a gushing Sky marketing person and someone from Atlantic Productions, the great man himself, Sir David Attenborough sat down in front of our row, four seats from me! Then we had a trailer of another film which Sir David wrote and narrated, due to be released at Christmas about a little penguin, called "The Batchelor King". He was adorable! I can't wait for this now.
Flying Monsters was just brilliant. For once the 3D works! When it ended, I was so, so disappointed that it was so short! The CGI was brilliant, especially loved the way the fossils came out of the TV, and during the Q&A, bless him, a little boy asked Sir David, how did he do that! After the Q&A, we were all invited to stay for the drinks and canapes, which were plenty and so yummy. Sir David mingled with everyone and I managed to shake his hand and had a conversation with him before having a photo taken with him. He was really, really nice. I loved that voices too. 8/10 for the film, but 10/10 for the whole premiere experience!
