Cineworld 02 was pretty full in Screen 4, the smaller screening room, but we were originally sent to the Sky Super Screening Room, and then sent back, so had some exercise before the film started! It was nice to see a familiar face in Beate's OH and he kept me company. Thanks OH!

Story was ingenious and surprisingly I was entertained, kids versus monsters! Probably aimed at teens, great teen characters, well acted, could identify with them as very realistic, and I thought sent out a good message, but didn't preach. And not too long so I got home pretty early from O2 for a change! Just what I needed after an eventful day at work. 7/10

Saw this at Parkhead Glasgow with OH and cheeksdevil. Probably 80% full. Cinema supervisor asked me how old I was. Guess she thought I looked under 15. Told her my age and she was very embarrassed. Said something about not having a great day or something.

Overall it was better than expected. Chav (or we called them Neds up in Scotland) teenagers fighting hairy gorilla/dogs aliens. Some funny bits but mostly so ridiculously it was funny. Definitely a teenage boy film.

I thought this was pretty awful. I didn't find it funny at all and the moral of the story is lost on me. I struggle to think of a film with more unlikable protagonists. I wanted the aliens to kill the whole lot of them. I thought the moral of the story was incredibly weak and I don't think the characters really redeemed themselves. I can't think of much positive to say about this other than the performances were decent and the strongest point of this steaming turd of a film. The actors give more than this deserves, with the exception of Nick Frost who I thought was dreadful in his minor role.

The night was saved by a Q&A that was more interesting and entertaining than the film and the cast and director hanging around outside the PCC to pose for photos with each other and audience members. For me the highlight was meeting Edgar Wright and asking some Scott Pilgrim questions. He is quite a tiny man.

3/10 from me.

Really enjoyed this. The action sequences were really impressive (the slow motion climax in particular) and I thought the creature design was striking and unique. Found it a lot funnier than expected too. From Luke Treadaway's posh dope-head to the cocky Pest and the cute Probs and Mayhem, there was a considerable amount of humour on display but never at the expense of the darker moments of the film. Didn't really have a problem with the characters being unlikeable to be honest, although some of them grew on me a little by the end. It helped that the cast was really strong despite their inexperience.

Yes the low budget was glaringly obvious at times and I wasn't emotionally affected by any of the deaths at all but I think they are minor flaws and didn't detract from the overall enjoyment. As an attempt to combine 80's style comedy horror and urban gang movies I thought it was very successful. Not perfect but great fun. Effective Basement Jaxx score too.

And the Q&A was very entertaining as well. But then Joe Cornish is always really good value in these kind of situations.
