Re: X-Men: First Class
Loved this! Great story, liked the humour with the battle on the ocean, and the cameo too! But could not help thinking Moira, the CIA girl, was Ellen from Damages, and Kevin Bacon just grated on me for some unknown reason! 9/10
I was about third in the queue at Odeon Covent Garden. I do have an Amex card, but forgot to take it (had not used it in a very long while!) and had to make up some story why I did not have it with me, and offered to email him my Amex number to check later, but the guy just waved me through!
Sorry, so many FMUKers did not get in. I did look out for you, Celini, but no idea who I was looking for as we had never met! I did see Cliveas only, and saved seats for funthing, her plus one which turned out to be hdaniel, bevvy and 5rannoch, but was getting a bit panicky as the cinema was filling up really fast, and so was really glad when they eventually arrived! I could not check on their progress either, as my phone had been confiscated!
Then I went to the ICEBAR afterwards, so had a fantastic evening. Thanks superhero for posting!

cookie monster... It's just eggs and milk b*tch. Do you mind not putting in spoilers next time you're talking about a movie please?!?

Re: X-Men: First Class
Just to be clear, everyone that went to see it for free, stating that someone does a cameo amounts to SPOILER!!!!
I thought everyone here has the etiquette not to spoil movies for people going to watch it when it's officially released.
If I told you a footballer cheated on his wife, but didn't say his name, fine! If you say there is a great cameo in the movie, fine!
If I broke a super injunction by saying Ryan Giggs, or told you the character/actor that makes the cameo, then WRONG WRONG WRONG!!

Re: X-Men: First Class
It's not exactly a spoiler really, it didn't have any effect on the rest of the film as a whole. This is a chat site and as such there will be people who accidentally blurt stuff out but it isn't intentional. Anyway, I found the film to be really good storywise and it was actually good to be able to appreciate an X-Men film for the story and not just focusing on the CGI effects. The whole cast were great, especially James who I didn't really rate before this film. Michael Fassbender was very very good and I look forward to seeing him in more roles in the future.

Re: X-Men: First Class
Well after reading the rave reviews. I guess ill have to watch this movie after all
Re: X-Men: First Class
hotlondon, I partly understand your frustration, but then again it is not like someone spoiled the ending of 6th Sense for you... It's a cameo, not a major plot line
Plus, no need to be so patronizing.
You are new, but you will find that we are a friendly and well meaning bunch and never spoil anyone's fun intentionally

Okay fair enough. I calm down. It's just that a few of us were actually happy this person was not in an X-men movie. So it would have been a funny shock to the system once we did see him in it.
Talking about spoilers, I think if you watch the International trailer, it's so long and impressive, then you've pretty much seen the whole film.

Re: X-Men: First Class
It certainly worked well without knowing beforehand that THEY were in it.
I hate how people, as soon as they could, did spoil that cameo. (Not a reference to this board, evil people online, the Guardian's review originally did that)

Re: X-Men: First Class
Took the afternoon of work to see this (having heard nothing about Sunday's screening).
Thought it was a very enjoyable film. More witty and smarter than the average comic book blockbuster. Crucially, behind the flashy special effects and make-up, it had really good acting amongst the main leads. Both McAvoy and Fassbender were very good, with some great support from Kevin Bacon, January Jones and Nicolas Hoult. Not so keen on Jennifer Lawrence to be honest (much better in Winter's Bone) and some of the supporting cast were a little anonymous (I mean, I wouldn't want to suggest that the actress playing Angel was only hired because she's Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's daughter but....still).
Have to admit I avoided this thread last night, precisely because I didn't want the cameo ruined and it looks like I made the right choice. Not that I'd blame that person though but I'd managed to avoid hearing about it and was glad it was a surprise. Although strictly speaking there are two surprise cameos aren't there?
Jennifer Lawrence briefly turns into Rebecca Romijn (Mystique from the first 3 movies) to show how she would look if she were older
No end credits scene or Stan Lee cameo though, which made a nice change.
If I have reservations about the film, I have to admit that some of the references to the future of the X-Men were a bit cheesy and half expected the actor's to turn to the camera and wink. I also wasn't a big fan of the Beast design. Though Nicolas Hoult was really good in the role, the look of the Beast just reminded me of a character out of a Dr Seuss adaptation (thanks to EthanRunt for this: http://yfrog.com/h8023sj )
Still I did enjoy it and I'd definitely watch it again.

I'm with Hotlondon, for me that was a spoiler as I had no idea about anthing and now, I'll be wondering when it happenshotlondon wrote:Okay fair enough. I calm down.
