I enjoyed seeing the red carpet footage and watching the stars being interviewed
at first but then it just went on and on and on. It was lovely to have an FMUK reunion at the back of the screen.

Nice to see Beate, pxc, hd, valda, SS, MrG and weirdfilms (yes, that was me

) and also to see canadian_turtle on the way out.
I am really glad to read that I am not the only one who thought the 3D was poorly done. When Harry went to confront Voldemort in the forest at the end, I was really distracted and couldn’t help but think ‘what are the fuzzy bits floating around near Harry’s head’. They should have kept this in 2D rather than doing such a shabby job. In some moments the 3D was executed well but often was unnecessary.
As for the film, I thoroughly enjoyed it! All the action and drama here definitely make up for the dullness of part 1. The fight and battle scenes were terrific and definitely gave the story the momentous climax it deserved. The break in at Gringotts was entertaining and the escape on the dragon was brilliant. Some of the scenes did feel rushed and a lot of the famous actors were reduced to cameo appearances, but the Hogwarts battle really was a sequence to behold and I was pleased they expanded it to make it more dramatic. Ralph Fiennes was excellent as usual and he always made Voldemort as manically evil as he should be.
I sobbed when I read the book and I will be honest that I got cried watching this as well. Considering he only really appears in a montage of scenes, Alan Rickman was superb. The emotion that he portrays with a minimal amount of dialogue and the way he makes such rushed backstory believable is an exceptional performance. I was incredibly moved by the moment where Snape held Lily’s dead body.
The King’s Cross scene which I was never that keen on the in the book because it interrupts the action, worked quite well and it was nice to see Gambon make Dumbledore soft and gentle in the way that Richard Harris did (rather than his bad temper and aggressiveness in the other films).
Radcliffe clearly pushed himself near the end when Harry faced death, but Grint and Watson did nothing to elevate their performances than that of previous films. As for the ending 19 years later, that was awful! I couldn’t stop laughing and I was cringing. Whoever did the ageing make-up should be shot!
This is definitely worth another watch and I shall go see it in 2D. 8.5/10.
