Re: Soul Surfer
I thought Helen Hunt was looking good for her age, believably 'surfie'. Was very jealous of living in a house by the beach and doing nothing but surfing.

Re: Soul Surfer
I thought so too, but then I checked her age... she just turned 48!!!!
She definitely does look older than this, but I agree she looks very believable if one thinks about the amount of skin damage surfers inflict to their skin!

Re: Soul Surfer
Maybe it's because I haven't seen Helen Hunt in films for a while which made it look like she's aged quite a bit, whereas Dennis Quaid seems to appear in a lot of things these days.

Re: Soul Surfer
Maybe she's a smoker? I was meaning in terms of body fitness she looked good.

Re: Soul Surfer
Oh I agree, body wise she looked great. I was thinking that facially she has aged quite a bit.

Her and Dennis Quaid bodies made me very jealous and self-conscious... I should get back to those trainers

Re: Soul Surfer
at least we know she's not had botox unlike say *cough*NicoleKidman*cough*
It's probably why it's noticeable, we're used to all the other older women that have had a bit of 'work' done

Re: Soul Surfer
We got to the O2 at 10am by accident (managed to catch every DLR and tube we needed in record time) and they were just starting to let people into the balcony so we bagged ourselves great seats. It was a bit of a waste of the superscreen though as not even the balcony filled up completely, let alone downstairs so it felt extra grating having to sit there for an hour waiting for it to start. Luckily I had a book on me and managed to use my phone light as a torch so I could read it.
This could have been so much better. The real-life story of Bethany Hamilton is surely interesting but I thought it was glossed over how hard it really is to just have one arm. How do you wash your hair and shower in the morning, how do you dress, how do you prepare food, how do you drive, how do you type on the PC or do a CTRL +ALT and DELETE command? It must be a nightmare, but no, the girl was only interested in how to surf with one arm. And all that "something good will come out of it" rubbish - what good came out of the tsunami in Thailand? Deeply patronising. It's also trying to be a real tearjerker at the end, making you cry about a stupid surf competition and a competitor who suddenly turned human: "The judges might not have counted that last wave but I did". Well good on you, sister.
And yes, Helen Hunt is looking much older these days. It's what I observed last night at Footloose already with Andie MacDowell (which also stars Dennis Quaid), but the men seem to age better somehow. I mean have you looked at Sarah Jessica Parker's hands lately? Yikes.

Re: Soul Surfer
The new Odeon at Swiss Cottage was very shiny and clean! Unfortunately, still no incline in the seating, except the seats at the back which was a little raised and the better seats, more comfortable and even has headrests. Lovely to have funthing, funthing's mum, celini, david and ejwrank's company. After the film, funthing and I went on a little exploration up to the IMAX cinema, and the swanky bar, very nice! In the toilets were spa soap and hand lotion, but wonder how long it will last.
The film was delayed for about 20 minutes with loads of advertisements, and some ads not appropriate for family viewing. Luckily, funthing went out to complain about the late start, and they stopped the ads suddenly and then played a trailer before starting the film, finally. And the aircon in the cinema is too cold!
Film was much better than I expected. I found it quite touching. Gorgeous shots of the waves. Didn't realise it was based on a true story. Was mesmerised how they filmed that lost limb, so well done with the special effects, and a good emotional performance from the girl as Bethany. Could have been an inspirational film, but very predictable and the tsunami scene was too cheesy and cliched. 6/10

Re: Soul Surfer
I always think that about SJP's hands! So ageing, her hands look like they should belong to the crypt keeper. A real tell tale sign but they do not do her justice as she is nowhere near as old as they look - not sure there is anything she can do about it now, someone pass me the hand moisturiserBeate wrote: I mean have you looked at Sarah Jessica Parker's hands lately?
