Woah! What a movie!! Easily one of the best of the year for me. It was a midnight screening & after having chugged an anti-histamine, I wasn’t exactly at my freshest…but I didn’t need to be. Despite running at approximately 150 minutes, it was fast-paced, gripping, horrific and riveting all at the same time. Unless you're a chronic narcoleptic, you’d have no excuse for not managing to stay awake until the end.

The bad news is that if you’ve seen the original 2009 Swedish version, there are literally no surprises to be had. Yes, that’s right - it’s pretty much the same movie, just one that’s been edited with a tad more finesse and had a few million more dollars thrown at it. There are differences in the story but nothing overly drastic. Performance-wise Rooney Mara steals every scene she’s in, though in my personal opinion, Naomi Rapace will always be the ultimate Lisbeth Salander. On the other hand, Ms.Mara did clearly have to work twice as hard in order to deliver all her (English) lines with a convincing Swedish accent. And thankfully, she didn't imitate.

Compared to the 2009 version, this one is also much more brutal - if you can imagine that. That one was sickening to the core, so that should give you some idea as to how stomach churning this one is. Especially, the bit where
Lisbeth gets her revenge on her guardian. In the original, I didn’t feel she’d punished that bastard nearly enough whereas in this one, it’s almost as if Fincher heard my cry and deliberately stepped up the ante…except by doing so, rather than focusing on providing retributional gratification, he chose to distress us even further. It’s a powerful scene and one that will linger in your mind long after the credits have rolled.
Overall, this is a brilliant piece of film-making. Nearly flawless. A certain torture scene didn't work for me in which
Daniel Craig seemed to be holding on to a glass of Scotch throughout his beating. Like WTF??
Anyway, the 2009 version was a perfectly cut gem. This one is merely a meticulously polished version of that very same jewel. The true challenge will be to see how well the other 2 in the "Millennium" series are adapted. The Swedish equivalents were both crap so there's definitely plenty of room for improvement.

Oh yeah, inappropriate laughing guy was in the audience tonight. You know that guy! The idiot who laughs loudly at every f**king thing, even the stuff that’s not remotely funny. May he never reproduce - that's all I ask.

Thank you again to Valda and Cellini. You guys are my new heroes! o/

Oh dear! the original rape scene was easily one of MY most disturbing cinematic experience.
Plus I had my lot of disturbing experiences this year; people who have seen Snowtown will understand... so Fincher or not, I am afraid I will have to give a pass to this one!

glad I did not even try to make it to the midnight screening! Was there lots of people?
I saw on Twitter that there was still tickets available right before it started!

Nah, there were loads of seats available. The entire left and right hand stalls were completely barren.
On the plus side, they did hand out free posters as we were exiting :)

I really like the poster they gave out. It's a great image and it's not ruined with heavy text.

Anyway, got my lazy arse around to doing my review: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2011/12/14 ... ttoo-2011/

I have no doubts this is a great film for anyone who hasn't seen the original. However, Daniel Craig is pretty useless any way you slice it.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
