Saw this yesterday afternoon and enjoyed it a lot.
Often very funny and with a likeable and charming lead perforomance from Seann William Scott (despite the fact he's playing a 'thug'). Great support too from Alison Pill (How cute was she in this? Much more so than in Scott Pilgrim. Though that's possibly not very surprising considering the character she played in that), Jay Baruchel and Liev Schreiber.
That rarest of things, a decent sports film that doesn't rely on a love of the sport to enjoy it.
Also managed to be oddly sweet at times despite the excessive violence and lines like "I want you to make lemonade in my chocolate factory". This was mainly due to the relationship between Scott and Pill which gave us 2012's most romantic line so far ("You make me want to not sleep with a bunch of guys")
It does lose a little traction about an hour in but manages to pull itself together for a great finale.
So a crude and blunt comedy then but a very funny and enjoyable one.

Not sure how successful and Ice Hockey comedy is likely to be in this country though (there were 4 people in the screening I was at. Though that was 13.40 in the afternoon).
Very strange that it's being released in the UK before Canada and the US as well, considering how popular a sport it is in North America. The US won't get it until the end of March, though they will get it on VOD at the end of February when Canada get it in their cinemas.

ok, here goes, repeating my missing review - not exactly word for word!

Good turnout of FMUKers at Charlotte Street Hotel. I arrived shortly before 7pm and was welcomed in and asked to help ourselves to drinks, then milkchocmonkey arrived, shortly followed by bevvy and 5rannoch, then celini and c-t, then pcrock, and lastly not least valda. We took almost the last row with c-t, celini, bevvy and 5rannoch sitting in the armchairs on the side. Then it was announced Seann Williams Scott was the surprised guest.

Enjoyable film. Silly but fun if not taken seriously like watching Tom (in a Tom and Jerry cartoon) or Slyvester (while tweety pie says "I tawt I taw a puddy tat!") both being bashed again and again. However, I did gasp at one violent scene in disbelief and had to look away. Did not realise that Ice Hockey can be so violent! 7/10

This wasn't as good as I expected and whilst I had read about the (cartoon-like) violence, I hadn't expected it to be so relentlessly crude, blokish and laden with bad language. I'm sure it's something to do with the desired certification but it's a mystery to me how some films are almost unrealistically free of obscenities whereas others seem determined to go to the other extreme. Most of the audience members at my screening were male and they were the ones laughing out loud.

What cinema did you watch this? Did you attend the Mayfair screening?

As a fan of both Jay Baruchel and Seann William Scott, I expected this to be good and I expected to enjoy it. I certainly did not expect to LOVE it, but love it I did. What a great, great movie!!

It's a damn shame this barely even caused a ripple at the US box office considering all the brilliant writing and acting talent involved, but I'm glad the studio still decided to greenlight a sequel anyway.
Even Hollywood manages to surprise me sometimes :)

PS. Any up and coming Jay Baruchel fans, please make a point of seeking out Undeclared on DVD. It's easily one of the best TV shows in existence even though you've probably never even heard of it.
Just trust me on this.
