Haha, yes. He made me think of Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button (obviously)
I agree with Octopus! He certainly looked better in the ageing process than Arnie Hammer(Clyde Tolson)'s character. He definitely looked as though he was wearing a mask or had had botox treatment which had gone wrong! 8O
I have to say that I did quite enjoy the film which displayed very sensitively the relationship between J. Edgar and Clyde and also, Helen (Naomi Watts). I thought the acting was very credible (though not really Oscar performance) and the use of "drained colour" definitely helped put the film in the 30s / 60s. The film did not seem to focus so much on the feared aspect of J. Edgar although the final scenes of Richard Nixon wanting to know what info the FBI had on him was very prophetic!
I would probably give this 6.5/10.

What could have been an interesting and intriguing film dragged for me, and not exciting enough. The story is told through Hoover, but I had a hard time not seeing DiCaprio as Hoover, and that voice, it is very distinctive and it always grates on me and just gave me a headache! And what is with the make up - they look like waxwork, and instead of looking I expect about 70 they looked about 150!

It finished late and the Q&A dragged as well, the first time I left one before it ended, I wanted to hear more about the film, not a debate on terrorism, taliban and torture of prisoners, interesting as it may be. But lovely to catch anakin for the first time, Sunny Saver, jeancomp, Marialionza, ejwrank, milkchocmonkey, cliveas, celini and bevvy. Saw soonforgotten and 5rannoch in the distance, so quite a big turnout of FMUKers.

6/10 Would have given more but unfortunately, I just can't stand DiCaprio. No offence.

OK. When I said it was a brown film I wasn't suggesting it was shit. Just that it was brown. Was no-one else bothered by this? Fair enough to maybe use trhis technique to suggest the past when a film cuts back and forth but not all the way through. Does the director think everything was sepia back then? No green, no red.....just brown!
I seem to remember this being used for atmospheric effect in The Awakening too.

God, that was long, dull and boring. I think the lady who sat in front of my mum said it all when she yawned rather loudly.

I thought Leonardo was a good, versatile actor though.

The make-up for him and Clyde as old men reminded me of a sketch in one of the English comedy shows. Can someone help me out? Is it the Fast Show or Little Britain... one of them has two old men with dodgy make-up on.

I'd give it 4/10. OH said it was 6.5/10.

PS ejwrank: was it the person who sat next to you who kept eating noisily all the way through? :)

Oh yes. I always manage to get them. She opened pack after pack of snacks and sweets and made an enormous amount of noise throughout the film. What a pain especially as everyone else was so quiet. My dirty looks did nothing and she managed to drop her large bottle of drink on my feet at one point too.

I was disappointed in the film as I thought the story of J Edgar Hoover should have been made more interesting. Hoover was a powerful character and I was surprised to feeling bored by it. Didn't know that Paterson, New Jersey was the setting of Hoover's first raid. I was born in Paterson.

You should have whispered 'I can see why you are the size you are from your diet'. I was two rows back and I could hear her.

We had a woman in the row in front who was alternatively sneezing, eating popcorn noisily, blowing her nose, sneezing, eating popcorn noisily - if you're that ill, stay at home, for God's sake and eat your popcorn in bed!

General agreement with most of the posts.
It was too slow and I thought grey but maybe brown is correct, Sturtboy?
The ageing make up on Arnie Hammer was stupendously dire. Washington Am-dram would have done a better job!

The potential was there just not fulfilled. 5/10

omg i must be the only person that really enjoyed this movie. Thanks to prettyxcool for saving us a seat.
Me and my sister are huge Leonardo Dicaprio fans and i though he was excellent in this movie. I loved the style of the movie and the story and i didn’t feel that it dragged at all 8.5/10
