Re: Khodorkovsky
I saw this Saturday night followed by a Q&A with the director (which was unfortunately rushed and hosted by an annoyingly arrogant woman).
This is a good doc, even if it is dry at times. It's no Senna, but it's quite relevant to Russia's current political landscape.

Re: Khodorkovsky
I think we have been more lucky than sf, as the Q&A lasted 45 minutes and was pretty informative. Tonight's Q&A at the Guardian HQ was handled by Luke Harding, their former Russian correspondent (now banned from Russia). Present were also the producer, one of the interviewee (Max, one of the early collaborator of Khordokovsky, met at the Mendeleev Institute) and at least one other prominent Russian specialist.
The Q&A was live streamed and the participants stayed as non controversial as possible for this very reason. It was an interesting evening even though I think the documentary could have been a bit better. It definitely felt a bit all over the place.
7.5/10

Re: Khodorkovsky
We were let into the Guardian HQ meeting room, a little after 6.25pm, most of us had arrived pretty early and was told to wait in reception until they were ready for us. Luckily, I had the lovely company of celini and cinefila, while we waited. ejwrank timed it just right, arriving as we were shown upstairs to the meeting room.
The seating in the meeting room were laid out in a U shape with settees in the front and chairs behind. We were all offered a drink and then introductions were made about the Q&A live streaming.
It was a very interesting evening, but it started late and after the Q&A and film, felt like a very long evening, and I felt pretty tired, mainly because of trying to read the subtitling which seems quite small as the plasma screen was some distance from where I was sitting ... did anyone think the room got colder as the evening wore on? I did enjoy the anecdotes from the director Cyril Tuschi, and the other crew members that were present. The lawyer was also there, but he spent the whole film on his iPhone!
I agree with celini, the film could have been better and felt all over the place, and it seems much longer than its 111 minutes. But it was interesting and quite topical. 7/10
Here is the transcript of the Q&A.

Re: Khodorkovsky
We were also at The Guardian for this tonight. The story is so complicated and so complex and really required concentration and still I'm not quite sure. It seemed to be a choice of two awful possibilities -- Putin or Khodorkovsky, the billionaire oligarch.
Unusual to have the Q&A first as most of us had no idea what was in the film but I thought it was interesting with the Director and the Guardian's Luke Harding. It wasn't a massive screen but I could see the subtitles without any problems (just got new specs so they proved their worth) but I thought the sound was sometimes dodgy and the room was so air conditioned that we were all pretty chilled through by the end. Glad of the good company of Celini, pxc and cinefila.
It was a long but informative evening and many thanks again to tilly and Ms Thrifty for giving us tickets.

Re: Khodorkovsky
Maybe the Q&A was first to make sure you all stayed for it as opposed to leaving immediately after the film.

I actually found the Q&A much more interesting than the film!

Re: Khodorkovsky
JESUS CHRIST. Really? Even me & my friends directed a better documentary, guys. I was looking forward to this film and I am really disappointed... the beginning was non sense (I missed one minute, but I don't recall the narrator explaining who 'I' / he was but he kept saying 'I went to this place', 'we did this or that'...), the shots were annoying, the script was confusing. I started to be interested after an hour, then confused again, and left.
I was expecting a real documentary explaining clearly the facts and the russian system - which would have been really interesting. But no.
5/10, just for the moment I actually found some interest in the story and concentrated for like 10 minutes.
