Just back from the Glasgow screening which was about 70% full. The best family film of the year so far and good use of 3D for a change. The Simpson's short before the film was really good as well. 9/10 for us!

Cute family fun but nothing special. Some of the voice work was good but some actors/actresses were weak. The 3D was used well, the animation looked great, and there were a few funny moments but the story was thin and there were far too many characters. Scrat, as usual, was the highlight. 6.5/10.

BRILL ! Add more later as using phone.
edit: Here goes . . . I loved Maggie Simpson's daycare story. o/ I have to admit to being a fan of the Simpsons!

As for Ice Age 4, it was so much better than I thought it would be given the last one was not great. :D
I definitely think Ice Age is wasted on kids. They just don't appreciate the language (spoken or written) humour and they don't see all the "takes" on other films eg Braveheart, Pirates of the ...., Jonah & the Whale.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film and would happily have pa*d and could sit through it again! :star:
I loved the granny sloth . . . she reminded me a bit of the old granny in the Beverley Hillbillies!
Marks 9/10

Everything I decide to do these days seems to be the wrong decision!

I had tickets for the relative comfort of Cineworld O2 at 11am, only to win tickets to the gala screening at Empire Leicester Square at 10.30am. After a lot of soul-searching I decided on that one, partly because of the promised breakfast and partly in anticipation of huge, wonderful screen 1. Only that when we arrived we discovered that our lot of comp winners had been put in tiny, tight screen 4! Not amused, especially as there was a lot of toing and froing during the screening, with parents taking their kids to the toilet, to the "plop plop" sound of bottles falling through the bottle holders as they were too thin and the holders had no bottom, so just about everyone was accidentally kicking their bottles through three times at least. There was breakfast, but it was mostly all kinds of croissants, mini muffins and other pastry, with the highlight being some small fruit salads (and marshmallows for cinefila1). The bottles at our seats consisted of incredibly sweet flavoured water, and I couldn't use my own 3D glasses as they didn't work, so had to use the chunky ones provided. Never knew there were different ways of providing 3D! The foyer was thronged with parents and kids and it was a fight getting anywhere. I managed a few pictures of Sid and Scrat in costume, and shortly before half past, when the foyer was emptying, prettyxcool alerted me to the green screen and with no waiting time I got a pretty x cool photo of myself with the Ice Age creatures in the background.

With trailers and a Simpson short about Maggie in daycare saving a butterfly, it was almost 10.45am before it finally started. The film - I liked it. But I didn't love it. The bit with teenager Peaches and her crush on the cool guy was pretty boring and fairly standard fare, as was all this stuff about how important family is. I found Sid funnier in the previous 3 films, and all that pirate stuff seemed out of place, though there were a few nice gags with the Braveheart-style rebellion of the small furry animals. Scrat was hilarious as always, and I had to laugh out loud at the last scene where the greedy little critter accidentally pulled the plug on his paradise. Granny Sloth and her "precious" were also pretty funny but all in all this isn't the best of the Ice Age franchise.

7.5/10

Well well well... funny moments, more boring ones. Entertaining. Like but not loved.
Good Simpsons short.

A massive thanks to Beate for this morning. Save me a long journey to the 02 (good job too as my station was closed this weekend!), and I had lots of lovely things for breakfast, saw a few "stars" being interviewed but only recognised Jo Whiley, had my photo taken against the green screen (which we can download afterwards too), and posed with Sid and Scrat, I had a lovely time, and was given a lollipop on the way out.

The film was quite entertaining, and for once the 3D worked for me, did not even noticed the 3D glasses, really good animation. Best bits were Scrat. 7/10

I loved the short pre-film "The Longest Daycare" with Maggie Simpson, trying to save a butterfly from an aggressive baby! Really clever and fun.

But I did not like that comp winners were stuck in Screen 4 rather than the large Screen 1. Boo to the organisers. We got a bottle of water at our seats but that was no consolation.
