Now the embargo has been lifted, I can finally post my comments on the film which I saw back in mid-July.

What an adrenaline rush! It is a great continuation of the Bourne franchise and Renner is a decent action lead. The rest of the cast, especially Norton and Weisz (though strange to hear with an American accent) were good.

The previous films had some of the best car chase scenes I've ever seen and this is no exception, definitely the highlight of the film.

I thought this was an intelligent extension of the Bourne story despite the loss of Damon (and hence Bourne). My only criticism is that it does take quite a while to get going and it has a LOT of exposition, but once it gains its momentum, it is high octane stuff and it is great watching all the plot threads come together in the third act. I enjoyed the action packed climax but thought the final scene was slightly underwhelming.

There is some impressive camerawork with panning out sequences, but there were a few occasions during the fight scenes where the camera jumped between shots too quickly and became difficult to follow.

Despite all this, it is still a highly entertaining action flick which I definitely recommend and plan on seeing again.

8/10

Ohh it's been lifted? Excellent

Overall I really enjoyed this film but was slightly disappointed with the fact that it wasn't quite as spectacular from the get go as the previous Bourne films. And since I love those a lot I had very high expectations. Having said that, Renner is an excellent addition to the franchise and I do think a worthy actor to be taking over the lead (different role, same kind of concept) and once the true action started it was an absolute thrill ride.

I am torn between a 7.5 and a 8, but I'll give it an 8/10 for now.

I've skim read your posts as to spoil anything, I'll read properly once I've watched it, but glad they are positive.

I'm considering rewatching the last Bourne film before I see this, do you think it's neccessary?

Not absolutely necessary, but it'll definitely help to have a refreshed memory on the world it's set in.

There are buried references to previous films which might be enjoyable for hardcore fans to spot but will not cause any confusion if you miss them.

Thanks for your reviews Funthing and C_T o/ o/ I was a little anxious how this new instalment would fare in comparison, given the new director and star.

Do you think its has the scope to span out as another intriguing trilogy?

Yep definitely, and it does feel like it is setting up the groundwork for future films and leaves the door open for a sequel.
