Shadow Dancer
Shame on Cineworld Haymarket - for making us queue up outside for over half an hour, then handing out pointless numbers than no one was interested in, then herding us into the dark, dingy and tiny basement screen (what happened to screen 1, Clive Owen is attending you idiots!), then introducing the film under a different name (Dark Shadows or something), then even getting Clive's name wrong and introducing him as Clive James, so they had to correct that "this is Clive (Owen), this is James (Marsh) and Clive James couldn't make it tonight." How embarrassing.
Unfortunately, and I can't blame the cinema for that, as much as I would like to, I didn't like the film at all. Never knew that a film about the IRA could be so incredibly slow-moving and boring.
There was absolutely nothing that kept my interest. Such a disappointment. No idea why Clive Owen found the script so gripping. I nearly fell asleep several times.
I have never seen anyone scarper faster after the film than jeancomp and OH, LOL. We tried to stay for the Q&A but it didn't really improve things apart from Clive saying he overheard someone coming out the screening saying that "if ever a film needed subtitles, it was this one". He's got a wee point there - I had trouble with the accents and I have a colleague from Northern Ireland.
5/10

Weird - was the actual premiere a little later in screen 1? Apparently Pippa Middleton and Rosamund Pike were there - I certainly never saw them!

Re: Shadow Dancer
I had difficulty hearing some of the dialogue for this. Luckily there wasn't that much dialogue. I'm not saying it was a bad film but I didn't enjoy it much, too slow and too many plot holes for me.
Lovely to see Kaybeelon after ages, Beate, pxc (coping well with her new found fame) and cliveas.
OH did not want to stay for the Q&A, and he who must be obeyed ....
(We probably were the very first people to leave in all of the screens and it was funny coming out of the cinema to a huge bank of photographers.)

Re: Shadow Dancer
we were at the Premiere (indeed taking place at 8.30pm screen 1) and it was full of friends and familly of the cast and crew, so lots of cheering/clapping when the credits rolled down! That was sweet.
It was very slow but I think it was necessary to build up the family's mainly non-spoken story (does that make sense?). I liked this film very much, at least its concept! My only problem was the accents, I could barely understand when dialogues were taking place between Irish characters
7/10 (not sure I'd recommend it to a wide audience though)

Re: Shadow Dancer
A Big Thanks to andrew.falconer who gave me a pair of tickets.
The waiting outside was a pain of course and they gave us raffle tickets just so they knew how many people were attending. Pretty pointless when they could have easily just counted us.
However I really liked the film I have to say. It was very dark and serious, but the subject matter is very dark and serious. But it had me gripped throughout the whole film. I also went with my brother who pretty much has an attention span of a gnat and I wasn't sure how he was going to cope but surprisingly he thought it was brilliant aswell.
I didn't have any problems hearing or understanding accents from the film. I did however stay for the Q&A and couldn't actually see Clive/James because they were seated so low down which was a shame.

Re: Shadow Dancer
Our screening was over by about 8.40pm and the Q&A started a few minutes later. So did the Premiere get a Q&A or an introduction by Clive Owen?Celini wrote:we were at the Premiere (indeed taking place at 8.30pm screen 1)

Re: Shadow Dancer
We had a short introduction of the film and cast at 8.25 or so by director and writer; no Q&A (I think as we left during the credits)

Re: Shadow Dancer
It was raining when I arrived at the cinema at 6pm and they made us stand outside in the rain and blocking the entrance to the sushi restaurant, so poor service, Cineworld Haymarket. When they handed us a raffle ticket I asked if it was for a prize draw!
Originally, when I won the tickets I thought it was for the premiere, as it was at the Haymarket, but no we were all ushered inside into their pokey basement screen, before the actual premiere started, so no chance to see any other celebs attending, so made a note to stay afterwards.
The person making the intros should really get his details correct, firstly introducing the film as Dark Shadows, and then for the Q&A introducing James Marsh, the director, and Clive Owen, as one person Clive James!
The film is pensive rather than suspenseful, it was slow and sober, and nothing gripping about it but it was realistic in the sense that people in the 1990's Belfast did have these terrible, tragic choices to make, and lived in fear and dangerous situations. It's well-acted and intelligently told. 6/10 because I nodded of several times!
I took my English friend who now lives abroad and was visiting, to see this, and she said it depicted really well how it had been during those trouble times from what she had been told by an Irish guy who lived in Belfast, who she had, coincidentally, recently met. She enjoyed the film and found the Q&A really interesting as she is learning acting/acts in amateur plays.
We hang around for an hour outside afterwards with the mob of photographers and waiting cars, and no-one came out! They had already cleared all the barriers and red carpet as well. We got fed up waiting, and went to the pub instead.
But supposedly Pippa was there along with Jon Snow, and Rosamund Pike:
