Savages

#1 Post by Yinster » Sat Sep 15, 2012 11:53 pm

Has anyone seen this film yet? Last week I saw it advertised on every second bus in Glasgow and just now I caught a tv advert of it. Don't think there be a preview of it as it is coming out this Friday.

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

Press screening was on Wednesday, reaction was... not good.
It's far too long, with terrible protagonists and a rather dull plot. Hayek and del Toro are a lot of fun, but don't have enough time on screen to make it worth watching.

It's pretty horrible, but enough to enjoy that makes it qualify (for me, at least) as a guilty pleasure. See it on DVD/BD for Del Toro alone.

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

What is it with those young, fit and incredibly hot people? no charisma nor acting skills what_so_effing_ever!

So the cast is one thing; apart from the hilarious portrayals from Hayek and Del Toro there is not much to look for (don't waste your time and money, don't see it). Then there is the plot... almost inexistent, I am still not quite sure whether it was a love story (sic!) a drama or a thriller.
And all this crap for a good 130 minutes, because the longer the movie, the better, right?
No! Don't see it!

I agree with sonforgotten's review as I certainly didn"t feel it was as bad as some on the forum. I saw this 2 months ago when I was in Trinidad & although I felt it was around half hour too long & that Blake Lively's VoiceOver drained the energy out of the film; it was fairly good overall. I thought Johnson's performance was fair & I particularly enjoyed both Del Toro & Hayek. Overall I"d give it 6.5-7/10.

We actually half agreed on Killing them Softly earlier yesterday, or maybe it was just me agreeing to disagree a bit with him

Plus we would certainly have agreed about Untouchable and the Campaign, had I bothered to watch them yesterday... what a day!

I agree with both but i rate it lower through the set-up and not quite action, then it just got silly, way too comic! The performances of the three, apart from the warmonger, were lacking passion. I hated the way the film glamourised their drug filled lifestyles. the twists of the plot were tiresome, what's happened to Travolta??

It plods along way too slowly, and becomes more far fetched as it goes along. None of the leads have any screen presence, the narration is monotonous and irritating, and the film could have done with some slicker editing to trim the running time. 4/10.
