Re: The Princess and The Frog
Have you ever thought that these free tickets are a bit like buses?..... You wait for one for ages, and then two different ones come at once!
So it was with my Invictus tickets. No sooner did I get them than Princess and the Frog tickets became available too - unfortunately for the same date and time. Obviously, I would need to choose one in favour of the other. Not to worry though because, I realise I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
I personally really looked the like of Invictus, but despite it being a 12A rated film, the website suggested that it included a couple of instances of fairly strong swearing which I'm never really keen on deliberately exposing my children to. I'm absolutely sure that they hear much worse in the school playground but anyhow that swung it for me (Well, that and the fact that I needed to call at the Silverlink to pick up my second prize of tickets and goody bag this month!). Maybe I'm just a prude, but anyhow I cancelled our Invictus tickets and the four of us went to see Disney's Princess and the Frog at the Silverlink. The cinema was only about 30% full this morning.
My kids (12 and 14) really enjoyed the film, rating it 9.5 and 8.5 respectively. I thought it was OK, and I was enjoying it, but after about an hour or so I felt it was dragging a bit and I kept on wishing that it would speed up and move faster towards its pretty obvious conclusion.
It was at this point that I wished I had gone to see Invictus instead. This was a fleeting thought though because once the end of the film was actually in sight it seemed to pick up somewhat. I liked the end much better than the middle bit.
I thought the music was pretty good too. So all in all a 7/10 from me for what is obviously a film more geared towards children - but hey I did have to choke back a tear at one part. Not an absolute classic of a Disney film in my book, but a pretty good one nonetheless.
I wonder if any more Invictus showings will become available?

Re: The Princess and The Frog
I saw this on Saturday, surrounded by lots of little girls (not many boys) and their families. It was rather sweet, and all the better for having children in the audience, laughing at the lame jokes, and asking questions in loud voices. Awww!!!
