Saw this at a very packed Cineworld Glasgow. About a dozen people turned away yet there were two seats spare. Granted a couple decided to hog four seats but I don't work in the cinema so didn't do anything. Sat with teddybear1 and OH. They made a face when I started to eat my friend's sushi. Not the usual preview crowd either.

Anyhoo I thought this was a really great teenage film dealing with issues that could happen to anyone. The three leads were brilliant and I did feel for them. Good to see the adults taking secondary parts. Good also to see NIna Dobrev as Charlie's older sister. Yes Charlie is 3 or 4 years younger (going by his countdown to his final day in high school) and won't mix with seniors if they were in high school in real life but hey it is the movies. Anything happens. Emma Watson's accent did slip into her English accent but who cares. 7/10

Ms Thrifty wrote:I enjoyed this more than I expected, given that it must have been aimed at a far younger audience - though there was a huge age range at Crawley and seemingly as many older as younger people present. As others have said, this was a deeper film than it might at first have seemed, though it did cram in almost too many issues and all the characters appeared to lead unrealistically charmed lives in the material sense: cars, smart houses, pocket money, etc. And had it not been for the frequent appearance of cassette tapes, I couldn't have said it was set in any particular era.

Despite watching umpteen films set in US high schools I still have only a sketchy idea of how their system works and feel I could do with more background knowledge about the meanings of the various years(e.g. junior, senior etc). For instance, Charlie was evidently a year or two below some of his friends yet mixed with them as equals, which surely wouldn't be the case in the UK?
what wiki is there for ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_ ... ted_States
hope that explains. I think the senior was in the freshman class because he'd repeatedly failed it and I think they are made to keep repeating certain things before they can graduate?

I loved the film, although I didn't feel surrounded by the music as I would have liked it felt like it was just coming out from the screen rather than surround sound. Maybe a technical thing with just that screen though.

Also a bit of a trip down memory lane, when the girl at the start teased him for having a trapper keeper. It suddenly reminded me that I had one of those, in fact I still have it somewhere and feel like digging it out :shifty: along with some old mix tapes...

No, I'd have said 86 or 87.
Possibly pre-Live Aid (1985) as they hadn't heard of the Bowie?

Really well done, well acted and thoughtful.

9/10 from me too.
I completely agree with you...we saw this at Wandsworth.
I thought that Ezra Miller as Patrick was really well acted.
A pleasant surprise of a film.

Yep I really enjoyed the film as Did Biggins friend but Mum not too keen on it, tho she lthought Emma Watson was really good, despite being a child star she has really proven to be a good actress.

Nice to catch up with everyone but could not see you Stuartboy and we kept a seat up the back for you.

Mum tripped/fell coming out tho, so gave us all a bit of a fright, but she is fine. Not sure what happened, will need to follow her down as I usually do rather than going first. Silly Me !!!

If the man behind her who has not owned up to be a fmuker, thank you for helping her. My back started to go when I bent down!! Ye gods, falling apart.

9/10 from me

Thanks so much to ejwrank and funthing for saving me seats as my friend was a little late, and they had let people in early. I was the first in the queue, except for funthing, so would have been peeved if I did not get a good seat! The screening room filled up really slowly though, and hdaniel82 got the last seat in our row, and it was completely full a little before 6.30pm and, sadly, mandmc10 did not have a seat and had to leave. Hope she managed to get a voucher or something.

I was quite moved by this film, but it seemed so, so long. A coming of age, with some very dark subjects, but it felt too aimless, the story going all over the place. To my delight Ezra Miller was in it. I met him at the special screening of We Need To Talk About Kevin last year and he is still so mesmerising. Lovely to see Paul Rudd too. His Mr Anderson really stood out. Nice role for Emma Watson after HP, but her accent was ok, and sometimes, I could hear Hermione. :D Logan Lerman was outstanding as Charlie. I did love the music, some favourites of mine there!
