Nearly did not make the screening at Leicester Square Odeon this morning, as there was a North London Bus strike today, has to only be the bus that runs outside my mum's house! :x

Lovely to see ejwrank and jeancomp, and thank you shmile for her company (I should add the tickets were for her mum - shmile is probably the youngest person here today!). I have never seen so many older people congregate together and some of them are quite grumpy too! My mum's co-ordination has got worst and she cannot move too well, so I like to seat her at the end of the row, only to be complained about by a couple of old dears to move her more into the row so not to block getting into the seats in that row! Other people were able to squeeze past my mum without any problems, when they took the time and patience to wait for her to shift her legs to the side. Then there was an empty seat, next to shmile which I thought I would make use of and put our thick overcoats there, only to be told off by the grumpy old lady next to it not to take up so many seats! She said she was waiting for a friend, who actually sat on the other side of her. The cinema was 70% full.

The Councillor (of Westminster Council?) welcomed everyone, apparently this is the last Silver Sunday film screening, and she thanked everyone for coming out on such a cold day and thanked Odeon for the use of the venue, and that we were the first to see the film as we were seeing a preview.

A delightful and charming film. Although not totally believe-able that they were once famous opera singers, it is a pleasure to watch these well cast older actors, Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connelly and Pauline Collins. The script is quite predictable too and does not have the liveliness of Marigold Hotel, but I loved the music. This luxury retirement home is one I would not mind retiring to either, unfortunately, I am not a musician, so perhaps, we should open one for retired FMUKers, where we can watch and discuss films on tap! :D :D 8/10

Well I would definitely sign up for the FMUKers Retirement Home.

Enjoyed this, slow paced but well performed little story. The music was lovely and at the end it was great to see photos of many of the cast in their prime in their (mainly) musical professions.

There was a scrum/stampede to get in and it was very cold inside but it was lovely to see prettyxcool and ejwrank and complain about the rest of the audience who did not respect the coat on seat reservation system!

PS I have seen the play too with a much smaller cast but no less enjoyable.

It's just a rehash of the plot of The Muppets. And in this version, Dame Maggie Smith plays Miss Piggy.

I missed the scrum then, and was surprised to see the back rows packed when I arrived at 9.35am, and the first available central aisle seat was 8 rows from the front! The two ladies sitting next to you and ejwrank are rude too! I have never met so many cranky and grumpy old people together.

Billy is Fozzy, Courteney is Kermit.
Michael Gambon is Scooter.

Saw this tonight at the Mayfair Hotel tonight thanks to McG. Lovely to see Canadian Turtle and I did arrive late and missed some of the pre-screening entertainment but what I saw was pretty good. The singers were pretty good with their festiive tunes.

The film was fine. Good performances and quite pleasant but I can't help comparing this to "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" earlier this year which I enjoyed more. The story was ok but I have to say the retirement home that these residents stayed in was the nicest retirement home I have seen.

There seems to be a trend in the film industry to making films for the silver surfer brigade or older cinema goers.

6/10
