Lovely to see ejwrank and jeancomp, and thank you shmile for her company (I should add the tickets were for her mum - shmile is probably the youngest person here today!). I have never seen so many older people congregate together and some of them are quite grumpy too! My mum's co-ordination has got worst and she cannot move too well, so I like to seat her at the end of the row, only to be complained about by a couple of old dears to move her more into the row so not to block getting into the seats in that row! Other people were able to squeeze past my mum without any problems, when they took the time and patience to wait for her to shift her legs to the side. Then there was an empty seat, next to shmile which I thought I would make use of and put our thick overcoats there, only to be told off by the grumpy old lady next to it not to take up so many seats! She said she was waiting for a friend, who actually sat on the other side of her. The cinema was 70% full.
The Councillor (of Westminster Council?) welcomed everyone, apparently this is the last Silver Sunday film screening, and she thanked everyone for coming out on such a cold day and thanked Odeon for the use of the venue, and that we were the first to see the film as we were seeing a preview.
A delightful and charming film. Although not totally believe-able that they were once famous opera singers, it is a pleasure to watch these well cast older actors, Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connelly and Pauline Collins. The script is quite predictable too and does not have the liveliness of Marigold Hotel, but I loved the music. This luxury retirement home is one I would not mind retiring to either, unfortunately, I am not a musician, so perhaps, we should open one for retired FMUKers, where we can watch and discuss films on tap!
