Playing For Keeps

#1 Post by funthing29 » Fri Dec 14, 2012 9:25 am

This is the definition of mediocre: not awful but neither does it have anything to recommend it. Performances are so-so, story is average, characters are all one dimensional and lack any kind of personality, and there is a distinct lack of comedy so barely qualifies as a rom-com. 5/10.

It was nice to see Gerard Butler in person and he is incredibly charming. The screening was also attended by Ronan Vibert.

Average. Average. Average. Not enough laughs, not enough plausible romance and not enough (or any) shirtless Gerard Butler scenes. A lot also didn't add up with storylines being dismissed towards the end in favour of the romance. Still, Gerard Butler is a cutie and he was charming beforehand. 5/10

Playing for Keeps

#3 Post by Livi92 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 10:45 pm

Just wondering if anyone has seen the latest Gerard Butler film, 'Playing for Keeps'? I'm a big fan of Butler, but haven't heard much about this film so far, and it doesn't seem to be on at too many cinemas, so I'm wondering if it is worth making the effort to go and see it. Anyone care to offer their view on the film?

Finally saw the film yesterday and I have to say it was better than I thought it would be. Its a typical rom-com, does what it says on the tin.. Certainly not Butler's best film by far, but not terrible either. Would probably give it a 6.5/10...

I'm normally pretty easy going with my ratings, especially for mindless chick flicks, but the main issues I had were:
The way they got rid of the perfectly good guy Jessica Biel was dating now, just so she could get back together with Butler, even though it didn't seem to be something that would work in the long run.

All the unfinished storylines with the other mums and their infidelity.
Saw this today with my free Mars Sunday collected tickets as it was one of the few things left I hadn't seen!

Being Scottish, I quite enjoyed the wee snippets of Scotland that were included.

It was perfectly OK then the last 15 minutes it went wonky and then redeemed itself before the end.

Not the best Butler film, but not his worst either.
