Re: Welcome To The Punch
I am with JohnnysHat. That was incredibly lame and boring, couldn't care two hoots about the characters and the story and it really annoyed me that everything seemed to be in muted colours, blacks and greys and semi-darkness throughout. Not even the Canary Wharf backdrop could get me interested. What a waste of talented actors. Ejwrank said that they explained the plot at the end but by that time I had long since stopped listening and thought about what I wanted to eat for dinner instead.
Also, we had some really annoying girls to our left who couldn't stop being noisy, bouncing about, slurping an almighty sugary drink and eating a truck-load of popcorn. I want FMUKers all around me next time. There were enough to our right! Nice to meet greece and Livi92 at last.
Poor - 4.5/10
P.S. Islington was suitably full but not overstretched.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Just got back from Islington. Quite surprised at the amount of empty seats (only 70ish% full) which for Islington is quite rare. I expected it to be full to be honest.
The film wasn't bad. Loved the suspense created and the action scenes. James McAvoy was really good as usual. Had fun spotting all the familiar London locations too.
What let the film down for me, was the lack of story. I didn't really understand why there starting killing people to begin with. It was as if the director was trying to be too clever with the story. Also I thought the film could have done with the relationship between the James McAvoy and his partner explored a bit more. There was a lack of romance for me!
Overall 6.5/10

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I really enjoyed this movie, I thought it was gripping and tense, with the right amount of violence. I thought the acting was superb esp. Mark Strong... although I did think it was missing a little something (not sure what though)!

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Very poor film - characters were poor you didnt care what happened to be them - action scenes average. All been done before and alot better in other movies. 4/10
Re: Welcome To The Punch
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found this a bit boring/slow.
I could see what was going to happen ages before the film finally made its way there.
Pardon the pun but it didn't really pack a punch as a blockbuster action movie or thriller.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I arrived at 5.50pm at Islington, and there was a queue already forming and surprisingly, they started letting everyone in, and did not take your tickets until we got to Screen 8 where the Sky rep was waiting. I had a good vantage from the back row to see everyone coming in! Lovely to see livi92 and greece again, ejwrank, tsoiboy, tufty, funthing, and lovely to catch up with Beate.
All too familiar action storyline. I kind of guessed the ending too, which was disappointing. The action is visually stunning and I had just been to the nightclub for an Events Awards ceremony, so the set was very fresh in my mind. McAvoy was excellent, but I just could not get into the story of corruption, double crossing and politics. But the scene with the baddie's grandmother was funny. 6/10

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I don't know - how about a story? Characters you care about and some brighter colours? Zac Efron? He usually livens even shit films up a litle.valda wrote:Great British actors, beautiful London scenery what more could I want from a British film? 9/10

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Underwhelming in all regards: unremarkable performances (I was especially disappointed by Strong), bland characters, predictable plot and a distinct lack of thrills or suspense. 5/10.
