LOL I'd rather have a snooze in my bed

Re: A Late Quartet
I'll be going but it does seem odd that this is being shown on Easter Sunday. What next--Christmas morning free films???

Re: A Late Quartet
There were a few unhappy Times+ customers at Greenwich PH this morning over the way the remaining seats were allocated - from a pile of printouts, you take what you are given, no changes possible, bad seats first. Of course this resulted in a few empty seats in the popular rows, given to members who either didn't turn up or sat elsewhere. Canadian_turtle won't like it one bit but the seat next to us stayed empty throughout.
The film was more watchable than last year's Quartet, probably because it was a drama rather than a comedy, but ultimately I wasn't much interested in any of those self-centered middle-class artists who play instruments, live in wonderfully interior designed apartments, have marital problems or shag students. I guess it was all about the fact that if you want to work together as a team, there has to be harmony - but as soon as Christopher Walker announced his disease there were dissonances, and frankly, it felt a bit far-fetched. The music was beautiful though and Walken was fantastic.
6/10
P.S. Upon leaving the cinema, we walked straight into a "free Vegetarian Paella tasting".

Re: A Late Quartet
Surprised at how full Hackney was, with hardly an empty seat in the cinema, given the lack of press I'd seen for the film.
The film was very mediocre, with a story which lacked any real oomph. I really felt that the film could have been made much better with a little bit of tweaking, such as adding a few flashbacks, so we could have seen the relationship between Daniel and the mother, before the band got together.. Also, maybe a look at the daughter's childhood/ the quartet's early career might have helped the audience actually get to know the characters, and so care when the band starts to have problems...
I thought the affair scene between the husband and the running partner was quite unrealistic, likewise was the other coupling involving the daughter..
The music, however was the film's stand out feature. It was really beautiful and definitely made the film a lot more watchable...

Re: A Late Quartet
I only saw your message when I left the cinema, Beate, but I was unable to move anyway as a few seconds before the trailers ended someone sat down next to me meaning I could no longer easily leave my row
Quick explanation of this morning's shambles at Greenwich Picturehouse: I know I said people shouldn't complain about allocated seating but that was me assuming (foolishly so, clearly) that those arriving early would get the best available seats left after member-allocation. Not so. I got to the cinema early and was first to pick up a non-member ticket yet was allocated the worst possible seat (second row from the front all the way to the side), so yes I did ask to change this as clearly they had their pile of print-outs upside down. They refused to change it even though better seats stayed empty, grrr...
Film was dull too and so not worth wasting my Easter morning on. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Christopher Walked gave some phenomenal performances but even that couldn't save this film. I actually thought Quartet was a lot better!

Re: A Late Quartet
Clapham PH wasn't very full at all. We enjoyed this film very much because of the excellent performances, the lovely music and the snowy views of New York.
c_t you're right, it's so annoying when they want the earliest arrivals to take the worst seats

Re: A Late Quartet
My parents were in the third row from the front and went to PH ridiculously early. Stiff necks all round and a bit disappointed in the film.canadian_turtle wrote:I only saw your message when I left the cinema, Beate, but I was unable to move anyway as a few seconds before the trailers ended someone sat down next to me meaning I could no longer easily leave my row![]()
