This was disappointing. IMDb list it as a Comedy / Drama – don't think I laughed at all. I was hoping to see a “Happy-Go-Lucky” type of film but how wrong was I.

It was bugging me where I'd seen one of the dinner guests from – she played the lead in "Sinister" (Juliet Rylance).

We had six walk-outs. 5/10 from me.

I would agree with all the comments from people who viewed tonight, boring, not funny and pointless. Not sure who they were aiming this at or why they filmed in black and white. Didsbury was boiling hot, full to start with, 6 walkouts. I heard someone ask the Times rep about the air conditioning as I walked in and he was to speak to them about it, but it never came on. I am rarely hot in the cinema, but tonight I was. Posting as a warning to those who still have tickets for this, my DD decided not to come tonight, wish I had not bothered as well - 2/10

Hm, at least WIQ was nice and cool so no complaints there - otherwise we might have walked out as well.

I absolutely loved this. A very funny and bittersweet gem. Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig delivering a wonderful homage to French New Wave from it's gorgeous black and white photography to it's more explicit nods to the work of Leos Carax ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMHXugVlzSw ). Baumbach and Gerwig's script was consistently funny and smart. Aimless perhaps but that was kind of the point. Plus this fits in with it's French New Wave approach to narrative.

Gerwig was fantastic in what was a tricky role to pull off. Frustrating, stubborn, immature but incredibly charming and likeable. The kind of character you know could achieve great things if they could only get their act together. A contradictory character in the most interesting sense. I loved spending time with this character, rooting for her to succeed.

I'd happily sit through this again and it could well end up in my top 10 of 2013.

I was this at WIQ tonight and lovely to see Beate and Cinefilia but I did not see PXC. Honest I am not stalking you.

I really enjoyed this B&W art house indie film. Aimless and no real point but quirky and enjoyable at the same time. I am a real sucker for these films.

Some quirky moments and also some real squirming awkward Larry David Curb Your Enthusiasm like scenes e.g. the dinner party scene.

These types of film normally split the audience with one end thinking it is utter pointless trite or the other where it is a real little gem. I'm in the gem camp.

Also the soundtrack is not too bad too.

I saw it last month. I love Noah Baumbach. From Kicking & Screaming to Greenberg, I've enjoyed his works so much. This was a pile of crap. Gerwig is not a good lead, I don't think I've liked her since Greenberg, and this was just an infuriatingly hipstery w*nkathon film. No characters deserved to live through the film, no film deserves to be as dull as this. Just awful.

My belated review. Was this supposed to be a comedy? It was just not that funny, and Greta Gerwig or the character she played really grated on me. And I kept thinking how much she looks like Ellen DeGeneres, and she sounded so similar too. I did not think the black and white helped either, it just did not work for me. Quite disappointed. I did like the sound track though. 5/10

Nice to have the company of Beate and her OH, and catch up with cinefila. Saw tsoiboy from afar, but did not have a chance to catch up as the lights went down for the film. Next time! ;)

I actually thought this was a foreign movie, perhaps French with subtlety and plot depth to match. how wrong I was. Its like an idiot watched Lena Durnham tv show and thought they could do better. how wrong they were.

I can only think of reasons not to make a movie like this. Easily the worst movie of the year, possibly worst freebie ever, ans yes that includes my youtube cut of MOVIE 43. A movie about the reality of being an upper middle class emo actress is the last thing we want to see at the cinema - about a person who should go and get a job and shutup moaning 'ohhh maaaaan my nail broke, yeaah maaan I cant get my ring aaaaff, heeey maaaan I don't know what to do' and such. Frances Ha almost wants me to become a terrorist just so I can crashland an airplane on Frances constantly consternated over nothing face. HA.

0/10. yes 0, I have never given anything 0 before but this gets it. pointless drivel with unengaging dullard annoying characters in an utterly inappropriate black/white pretentious format. I did a Celini and left halfway, following several others.

possibly my review is coloured by the prescription drugs I am currently on, but there you have it.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

How best to describe my experience of watching this movie? It was like being invited to a party filled to the brim with pleasant individuals that I had little to nothing in common with...nice to have met them all but I certainly won't be going out of my way to meet up with them again ;) .

I've seen much better movies & I've seen much worse so as this falls somewhere in the middle I'll award it a (slightly generous) 5/10...
