Saw this last night in Wandsworth. A pleasant enough coming-of-age film. A strong cast but a weak story line. I felt there was more mileage in the plot when it finished. Maybe a large portion ended up on the cutting room floor. I would have liked to have seen more of a relationship develop between Duncan and his next door neighbour, Suzanna. And I think Duncan's mother should have got to know Owen a bit more. It all felt as if it finished before the loose ends were tied up. I would give it 6/10 - a nice film, but not earth-shattering.

We enjoyed this. Such a shame they couldn't have spent an extra fiver and kept the 80s theme going as a "Wedding Singer" vibe complete with hairdos would have been truly delightful to see. I would have gladly donated my hot pink matching armbands and leggings. As it stands I think Allison Janney did bring her own 80s gear ! She was a hoot as was Sam Rockwell.
This also brought back memories of our old Datsun Sunny and my brother and me sitting back to front.

7/10 as is but would have been higher if they'd stuck to the excellent script with its countless 80s references.

I saw this film with my fiance last night he loved it, me not so much. It wasn't that I thought it was bad as it did have some laugh out loud moments. I think I just felt the characters could be more developed. Whilst I do like a good ending to a film, ending like it did ( not saying anymore as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the film) just leaves me with too many loose ends!

Saw this last night with OH in Glasgow. After what i thought was a very slow start, I really enjoyed it. Thought it was heartwarming and funny - with a few laugh out loud moments too!

I really enjoyed this movie, eventhough the 10.30am start time on Sunday was a bit of a pain, but regardless the film was great, Sam Rockwell really did steal the show, but I did in particular enjoy Steve Carell's performance as it is a role you wouldn't normally associate him with and thought he pulled it off.

He is, by far, the best thing about it and livens up every scene he's in.
My thoughts exactly. I did enjoy this but the most important and memorable scenes were the ones with Duncan and Owen. Sam Rockwell was excellent here, hitting just the right tone, indolent yet still charming. A strong supporting cast but I felt the script was a bit lacklustre in places, however the actors did the best with the material they had. I liked it but my enjoyment was heavily influenced by Rockwell's performance. Still, I give it 8/10.

Lovely film; I just can't get enough of Sam Rockwell.
8/10
(I can't believe only eumenides mentioned the fantastic Allison Janney!)

Agreed. Allison Janney was also really great.
