Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
Saw this in Edinburgh too and like most of the others was very disappointed in the film. Had been billed as a five star comedy but not that many laughs. Am at a loss to understand how it could be awarded that.
Feel there will be a lot of disappointed folks going to see this because you would expect so much more from a film with Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. So glad did not p*y for it!!
Interesting to see the man from the orange ads in a film tho
No idea who it will appeal too.
Fraid only 2/10 from me

I've only seen the trailer, but that put me off wanting to see the film - surely not the intention, but judging by previous comments, had it raised my expectations, they'd have been dashed by the film itself.
Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
Saw this last night at the Showcase Deluxe in Bristol - which was full - people were even sitting on the floor and the steps once all the seats had been taken!
I hadn't seen the trailer before watching this film so didn't know what to expect - but certainly wasn't expecting what I got! It was funny in some places and cringe-full in others but overall it was ok. I would have been disappointed if I have pa*d for this however! I thought Ewan played a good part and would have loved to have seen some outtakes at the end - I'm sure Jim/Ewan found it hard to keep a straight face in many of those scenes!

Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
I watched this on Tuesday night at Gateshead, which was probably about 50% full - lots of empty seats down at the front and to the left. I had thought that the trailer looked very funny indeed, and was really expecting a comedy - a gay rom-com. That is not what I got. And I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it was that I did get. In fact, I don't really know that the film can fall into any one category. At times, it is a comedy, then a rom-com, then a love story, then a drama. It's just never enough of one genre to pin a label on it.
Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor were excellent in their roles, as gay con-man and gay lover. There was a love story in there, but it got swept along by other events, jumping around all over the place. It has left me feeling dissatisfied with the film, which actually had the potential to be a lot better than it was. Perhaps with a different scriptwriter, director... it would have been told differently.
6/10 from me.

Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
I'm really looking forward to seeing this when it comes out (why no London screenings - damn you film gods!) cause I tried to see it last year at the Sao Paulo Film Festival but the damn screening sold out just before I got to the front of the queue!
Anyways, it's an interesting premise (which is actually based on a true life story) and the writers/directors have come up with a film like Bad Santa before so hopefully this will be in the same funny offbeat vein...

Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
Painful.
Just Painful.
My ribs were in pain, laughed a heck of a lot, and boy, I thought near the end I'd end up tearing up like in Man On The Moon, thank goodness it didn't give you a depressing death ending, I dunno what it is, but Jim Carrey dying in films, always sad.
And wow, I kinda liked Ewan McGregor in this, who'da thunk it.
Hysterical, well done and compelling, a wonderful treat, I'm glad I pa*d for it, would have felt a bit more guilty had it been free
(Can't believe a film I've waited for for years actually lived up to promise, so rarely happens)
9/10

Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
I thought the film was quite uneven. At one point I thought it was going to be like Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and then it's a stalker comedy and then it's trying to make social statements. The audience was quite shocked at the romantic scenes between Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, well it went much further than Brokeback Mountain lets say.
They were enjoyable parts but also parts which fell completely flat. 6.5/10

Re: I Love You Phillip Morris
Saw this at the Attitude Magazine's mini Gay Film Festival at the Mayfair Hotel.
Another truth is stranger than fiction story. Fascinating to watch, a con man story and tender love story between him and an inmate he falls in love with in prison. Great performances from both Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, that you felt for them and rooted for them. Go past the gay love. It is sweet and the tone is kept light. Funny, sad and true! 8/10
