Blah... Tiresome is a good word for this, I wish I hadn't bothered. I wasn't offended, I was just plain bored with all the sex, violence, etc. So very original, eh? Counted a few walkouts and should have joined them. So I'm gonna go with 1/10 and the one point is just for the late great Frank Sidebottom's cameo appearance.

I give this 9.5/10. McAvoy's decent into madness isn't easy to watch but is compelling. He had great support and I loved the soundtrack too. My film of the year up to now.

I did not know anything about this film, so when the music played at the beginning of the film, was surprised it was so upbeat and thought this must be a comedy, but I did not find it at all funny. It was just sordid and perverse, sex and drugs, more sex and more drugs, and even more sex and drugs, with corruption and violence thrown in. I did not enjoy this one bit, however James McAvoy was astounding as the junkie policeman descending into manic depression, self-obsessed, sex-obsessed, he was so unpleasant. The supporting cast was also very good too. Just realised that it was only one hour and 37 minutes, but it felt a lot longer. 5/10

The Vue West End was surprisingly full as I thought there had already been screenings of this already, and a group of people came in quite late too, obstructing the view as people got up to let them through the row. Screen 8 is also a strange screening room with seats at an angle to the screen, and even thought the seats were tiered, the screen is so low that anyone sitting in front of you would obscure the bottom of the screen!

Lovely to see ejwrank. Sorry she had to sit next to someone who was quite unpleasant and disruptive looking at her mobile all the time. Is it so hard for people to put their mobiles away for the duration of the film?

Oh gosh I can't wait to see the Sidebottom in action. Don't spoil it for me!

I will be adding my name to the list of "I am not too sure what to think of it"!
Some scenes were very good, but overall I think it tries way too hard to shock.

Weird book. Therefore movie can't be anything other than weird.

Hadn't appreciated until hearing James McAvoy saying so last night on Alan Carr Chatty Man that the role of the tapeworm was played by Jim Broadbent. That went over my head, but makes sense now as he was also the doctor.

Yes, that only dawned on me last night too. Had thought it was just the picture on the wall but that makes perfect sense now.

Went to see this yesterday & thought it was very decent indeed.

James McAvoy's performance was really quite superb and I thought his character came across as tragic and actually quite sympathetic (at least in the latter half of the movie).

Overall this was one of the best dramas that I've seen this year so it gets a comfortable 8/10 from me o/ ...
