Great movie, fantastic action, Tom Hanks and the Somalian pirate boys acting was tip top, I was in two minds whether or not I wanted to see a pirate movie and am so glad I went.

Well we all thought this was terrific--incredibly tense throughout and well acted by everyone.

Over two hours long (why oh why) and most likely emotionally draining. That's what I kept thinking going in. Well, it is over two hours long but I didn't notice, and it is quite emotionally charged, although I'm guessing not knowing the outcome of the real story behind it made a difference. Tom Hanks was superb and the story was well told. One of the better movies I've seen this year.

Loved it - what a tense and gripping film. I can't believe Barkhad Abdi has never acted before - he gave a phenomenal performance as the heroic pirate captain. Great to see a First World director make a film such a sensitive and intelligent perspective on the plight of Somalia. Those two hours flew by!

Like martadelas I was in two minds whether I wanted to see this as I expected an action-packed and very tense film. But I'm so glad I went! Yes it was indeed emotionally draining (honestly, these were the two most tense hours of my life) but also very rewarding from a viewer's POV. I'm also pleased that I managed not to read up on the events before seeing the film, so the ending wasn't spoiled for me. This is one of the best films I've seen this year with an Oscar worthy performance by Hanks, though for the sake of my nerves probably not one I'll ever watch again. 9/10

Very realistic and terrific performances by the Somali guys - gave real insight to the problems on a global level

really enjoyed this and the time flew by, the end 20 minutes were amazing acting from tom hanks and the somali captain and the last 5 mins were very realistic and oscar worthy imo.

just read the nytimes story - food for thought but don't think it will detract from the films popularity as Americans love to sue everybody!

Good movie but maybe just a little overrated in my opinion.

The shaky cam was downright nauseating and the historical inaccuracies off-putting -- if Phillips could have been depicted as the scuzz-bucket he apparently was, it would have added an interesting extra layer to the story -- but it was fast-moving, energetic and reasonably intense. The Somalian's too were excellent! If Tom Hanks manages to bag an Oscar nomination but they don't then well, I just plain give up on the Academy.
