Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
The only living Sinbad I know was in Brookie, is it him?
I couldn't get into this really. I hated the way it was shot, and the film or whatever it was shot on. All that grimy, grittiness and frenetic camera work was making me feel sick.
Thank Goodness for KEvin Costner as the rest of the cast, didn't hack it. Kiera Knightley's gurning and Kenneth's rubbish accent. Pine was ok as he was supposed to be a novice in the spying game.
Silly plot
as soon as I saw the motorbike I knew it would end up in a chase sometime in the film
the only thing that kept me going, was the hope that
she was a sleeper. Sadly not
6/10 for Costner
Great to see the lovely Jeanelle and Claire

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Thank goodness someone else didn't like it.I would agree about the filming,it did make it hard to watch at times. Some of the lines were so corny, wish I could remember them.valda wrote:The only living Sinbad I know was in Brookie, is it him?

Unimaginative and dull with distracting accents, a disappointing first film of 2014 for me. The only saving graces were Pine's eyes and boy scout grin. 5/10

I enjoyed it, nothing special, but it was what I was expecting and I do like Chris Pine.chelle1973 wrote:Meh! Some parts were good but there was something missing, didn't float my boat the way I would have liked! 5/10
Sure that was sinbad in it...
blink and you'd miss him!
I think we have been spoiled with some really good films so far this year, which this does not compare with, but it kept me entertained and I would still give it 7/10. I agree Kenneth's accent was not good, especially with him being the director. Also not impressed with David Hayman's Russian accent, the Scottish accent came through a few times.
It was definitely Sinbad he is listed on IMDB. I watched an interview this morning with Chris Pine and I think he said one of the chases was filmed in Liverpool so doesnt surprise me.

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Didn't particularly like this. Did however enjoy the fact that I was a a movie - seems so rare currently. Seemed a little disjointed in places - I wonder if a lot hit the cutting roomfloor? Couldn't help seeing Captain James T. Kirk constantly! Not a very convincing 10 year jump in terms of aging - he still looked like an economics student rather than an ex-marine and war veteran. Who else thought that Alesandr looked the spit of Patrick Swayze? Lol.
definitely not as good as previous Tom Clancy adaptations.
6/10

Credited as Auto-Plant Worker, great performance!alythonian wrote:Yes Sinbad ex of Brookside and Corrie too I think.
Rest of film, even for a dumb spy thriller, was a bit poor and as others have said very dated.
they seemed desperate to stop what had already happened to the US economy in 2008!
Costner was good, Pine was ok, but there were some very dodgy accents from their co stars 5/10

Re: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
So many FMUKers at Vue Islington tonight, that I have not seen for yonks, seems like our own little party!
What is going on with the two queues though, firstly we waited outside then was told to go to screen 2, whereupon we had to line up yet again just before reaching screen 2, in a cordoned off queue, which I nearly missed, and had to sneak back by ducking under the cordon strap, next to Beate who I was with earlier outside! Finally, just as Beate's OH needed the loo, we were let in, but we were quick enough to get the back two rows. Then the lights promptly went off, but promptly came back on, as obviously told it does not start until 6.30pm, when it did start were subjected to five minutes of marketing for Times+
Well, I suspended disbelief and went for the ride, it was all too familiar, but nevertheless a tense, exciting thriller, that I thoroughly enjoyed, and it has Chris Pine and Kevin Costner in it, so in my eyes, it can't go wrong! 8/10
However, apparently the film we saw is not based on any of the Jack Ryan books but actually a story written for the big screen, but using the Jack Ryan characters.
I read it here!
