Blanchetts on top form as the socialite who saunters gradually downwards, not all self inflicted but theres a daunting message here that ultimately theres no difference between the rich and those living out on the street and that upper class values can shear you of your wealth.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

A good film with good performances although I did not like the sudden ending. Would have liked the story for Cate Blanchett to have moved on some more. Liked the soft jazz soundtrack. 6.5/10

I enjoyed this, but I was very confused at Ginger's boyfriends who all seemed to have moved to San Fran from New Jersey!
I did wonder if Woody Allen had forgotten he'd located it elsewhere than New York?
Cate Blanchett was excellent in the lead role and very believable.

Saw this at West India Quay tonight. Why they told everyone to wait outside, when the screening room was ready does not make sense.

Finally, about 6.10, me and a couple decided to go in and check it out, only to find there were already two people inside, the couple went immediately to the back, and sat in Beate's seats, which is quite disconcerting as not used to seeing someone else sitting there that is not Beate! I bagged my seats and went out to look for my OH, who was running late as he had not realise the DLR did not stop at West India Quay coming from Bank, so got a bit disorientated trying to get back. While I looked out for OH, the person scanning the tickets was calling on his mobile that people had gone into the screen, despite him telling everyone to wait outside, and the Manager then went to check, but just came back out without doing anything.

Sad film. Cate Blanchett is extremely good in her role, can see why she got an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but I thought Sally Hawkins was also superb. I felt it ended too abruptly. 7/10

Ah please don't tell me they are disorganised at WIQ again. Seeing Frozen tomorrow. Can we go in with the tickets or do we need to exchange them as it's kind of a regular screening? Or isn't it?

Didn't exchange, didn't check anything, they just scan the barcode. Look at the digital display which shows the films "Now Showing" when you arrive above the box office and the film will be listed and you can see in what screen. Go straight up there. There's an elderly couple who seems to be going to all of them, as they asked me if I had gone to see Great Gatsby on Sunday, and apparently it was a shame as the cinema was half full, this is the couple who did not listen about staying outside and went straight for your seats!

I also enjoyed this, although I'm not sure how much it was me being overeager to like it after discovering that Woody Allen didn't stop making good films around 1993. In truth, the more I watch his back catalogue, I discover there are plenty of his films I don't like (The Purple Rose of Cairo, Stardust Memories etc.) so while I've been delighted to discover Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point (one of the strangest films I've seen in a good while. I'm still not entirely sure if Jonathan Rhys Meyers was meant to be doing a confused accent to reflect his inner strangeness or if he couldn't maintain or decide how he should play it each time), I'm no longer disappointed to find that Cassandra's Dream or To Rome With Love (beyond the Jesse Eisenberg bits) were a bit rubbish.

So Blue Jasmine is somewhere in amongst all this. I couldn't quite divorce myself from the hype of it being a return to form, and it has the baggage of being compared to his other films such as Crimes and Misdemenours or Manhattan which I watched for themselves, as young and naive without awareness of his other films, but all in all, I suspect it will be a film I return to again and enjoy.
