The Face Of Love

#1 Post by Beate » Mon Dec 08, 2014 10:34 pm

There weren't even 20 people at Vue Islington.

I thought this was dreadfully boring. Kept hoping for a twist in the story but it was just straightforward about a grieving widow starting a relationship with a man just because he looked exactly like her dead husband.

5/10

Diabolical -- truly awful. What were they thinking? How could anyone write such a bad script? I met a woman on the way out who thought it was wonderful and seemed surprised we didn't agree. She may turn out to be the only person on earth who thought this was good. Looks like this will be our last free film of 2014 -- what a stinker!

Glad to see Beate and OH (doing a rather nifty Strictly routine in the foyer) and pxc and OH.

I thought that this showed promise and seemed to be ambling along ok. Then it jumped forward in time and then simply stopped abruptly. It was extremely unfulfilling. Very like a short story that pointlessly goes nowhere. Potential: wasted.

I have to admit that I was particularly distracted by poor Robin Williams as it was so sad seeing him now that he is no longer with us. Even sadder that he was virtually redundant in this.

I'm afraid this is more like a 30 minute BBC1 play than a movie. Wouldn't p*y.

6/10

Also the emptiest I have seen Edinburgh for along time.

It's like one of these Channel 5 afternoon movies, isn't it? Trying very hard to be meaningful but failing miserably. I now understand what Robin Williams said about having to choose dreadful movies for the money.

He has to be better than John Sergeant!
I think you're forgetting The Theory Of Everything next week - that might turn things around!

Oh yes you are quite right, Beate. Forgot about that one.

And OH is definitely a better dancer than John Sergeant though I haven't seen OH's paso doble yet.

Absolutely awful. What a waste of my time, so boring, wished I used my vouchers and gone to Interstellar instead. I gave up a fancy dress party for this as well. It was sad to see Robin Williams, looking so underused here. 3/10 is being generous.

Edinburgh was 1/2 empty. Thought this was a weird choice for a Sun screening too.
Annette Benning was very good in her role, but it just didn't go snywhere. It would have worked much better as a radio play where they could have kept the story believable a lot longer. It was find with good acting, but very disappointing overall.
We've no more freebies in Edinburgh. I have a heap of freebies to use by the end of the year so plenty more to see.
Btw whatever happened to Dumb and Dumber 2?

Not many at Leeds (30?), and some of them walked out after 20 minutes.... But that meant we had nice VIP seats in one of the biggest screens.

I looked on IMDB before going - not promising - but went anyway. I thought it better than some films, e.g. the cr*p comedies with long faded Hollywood stars. The two leads doing what they the could with the story/their roles. Sad seeing Robin Williams but again, I know widowers just like his character.

However, the plot resonated with me, as I know people who look for clones of past partners. Indeed, I have a friend who I suspect will do just that in the near future (her husband having just died after a long illness), just so she can try to capture some of the dreams and plans they had before he became ill.

How did they find another actor who looked like Ed Harris to play the part of Tom, the boyfriend? What a coincidence for husband and boyfriend to look so alike, and also both the actors playing them tone so similar too!
Poor Robin. RIP.
