Big Eyes
Saw this at BAFTA this afternoon. Interesting true story, nicely portrayed by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, but did not feel the film goes deep enough. "From a distance you look like a painter, but up close there's just not much there" Just like the film! 6/10

Re: Big Eyes
Haven't seen so many FMUKers together in ages! The usherette was very nice to OH and brought him one of the stools to sit on while we were queuing up in the main foyer - we weren't allowed to stand near the screen.
I can't say I liked the paintings but did like the story and both Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz were very good. Especially the court scenes at the end were very funny but the solution was obvious - let them both paint a picture in front of an audience.

I agree with Beate, there were so many of us there, and it was lovely to see people I haven't seen for months. 7/10Beate wrote:Haven't seen so many FMUKers together in ages! This film was quite good. Nothing marvellous. Although I do like a true story!

Re: Big Eyes
Wonderful film, I'm at an age where I can remember the pictures and had no idea about the story behind them.

The court scene was wonderful -- made the film for me. Glad to see Beate, OH (from afar), pxc's friend, valda and canadian_turtle.

Re: Big Eyes
Saw this last week and thought it was pretty solid, it was also a reasonably enlightening viewing experience as although I was aware of the pictures I knew very little about the story behind them & it certainly made me appreciate just how talented the artist actually was (previously I'd thought of these pictures as being pretty tacky, much like Terence Stamp's 'John Canaday').
Performances are generally very good throughout and time wise it didn't out stay it's welcome so overall it did more than enough to get a 7/10 from me...

Re: Big Eyes
Saw this today and I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.
I son perked up as soon as I realised it was about the Big Eyes paintings that I discovered and loved in my college days but, as most people here, I had no idea about the wild story behind them and the deception and betrayal executed by Walter Keane.
The film was beautifully done and even when Waltz is being affectionate and sincere at the beginning of the film, I couldn't help but shake off the slimy and sleazy aura that he gave off.
Lovely film, and quite intense for something about art too!
