Dying of the Light

#1 Post by nosila50 » Tue Dec 30, 2014 9:57 pm

Saw this tonight in Edinburgh. Cinema just over half full. I am a big fan of Nicholas Cage but would not put this down as one of his best. The storyline was a bit limp and slow in places. Saying that it was still quite watchable although my daughter who was with us was not impressed. Not what I would class as a thriller in the thriller sense. There was a trailer on beforehand for a Taken 3 and that's one I do want to see.x

Saw this in a less than half full Glasgow. I was disappointed in the film as I did expect a better story. Funnily enough, I'm not a great fan of Nicholas Cage but thought he was rather good in this film. Like nosila50, I did find the film slow and at the end, my question was what was the point of it all
I think the story had potential but it just didn't reach thriller level for me.
Marks 5.5/10
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

Well I guess they tried with the dementia topic. However, people with FTD don't usually have much insight into their condition or can explain to others what sundowning is. They do have behavioural changes though or can drink and smoke too much. Dementia wasn't really the topic anyway - our all-American hero with the correct set of values, which he kept banging on about, had one thing left to do, and that was to catch an old enemy, with the help of a young colleague last seen in Star Trek. And as far as that went, it was pretty formulaic.

Well. What can i say? Dreary doesn't come close. Thriller? Tinker Bell and the Whatever was more thrilling than this. It was like a quarter episode of Homeland dragged out to an hour and a half, but with all the good bits removed and some scenes of paint drying and grass growing added in. I must have nodded off as I have no idea how he appeared in Bucharest having seemingly just resigned, nor who the hell Michelle or the really gay make up artist were or where they came from. I'm not aware of sleeping at all which is more concerning. Must have zoned out.
Not sure why all the fuss about 18 cert either. Big posters all over doors to cinema proclaiming this. Only slight gore I'd say.

Predictable Nick Cage snore-fest.

Yawn! Kept nodding off. Awful script. So uninteresting. Did not expect much, but worst than I thought. This film is dull. OH thought the story had potential and actually thought it was ok! He gives it 7/10. Me, 4/10 cos I was a bit fascinated by the young side kick, Anton Yelchin and thought Irene Jacob had the only interesting part of the film. Would have liked to see more of them.
