Re: Lion
I thought this was incredibly moving, and knowing that it was a true story really added to the emotional experience. I liked the fact that there was very little dialogue at the beginning and it was all about the atmosphere and the visuals. I'm glad the film didn't try to ramp up the tension of a google map as the drawn out nature of those scenes felt like they reflected Saroo's long search. I needed two tissues at the end!
Bit confused about why Dev Patel has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Oscars. Is he supporting the (wonderful) child actor who plays the young Saroo?
9/10 from me.

Re: Lion
Officially, he has been placed in that category because they think he stands a better chance of success but it does seem daft when he is the lead actor. If the child actor is the lead, then why wasn't he up for nomination?cheekyweelassie wrote:I thought this was incredibly moving, and knowing that it was a true story really added to the emotional experience. Re: Lion
What an emotional roller coaster. If you are a parent, and we all have been a child, defy you not to weep! The 5 year old boy is so cute, and what a great actor for such an age, and wow, look at Dev Patel, he has filled up all right! All the supporting cast, although small screen time, were all brilliant, and the real mum. What a story, and it is all true, moving and gripping, and the cinematography is so beautiful. Great ad for Google as well! 9/10
And now Dev Patel wins the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for Lion! He has come a long way since Skins and Slumdog Millionaire, the boy from Harrow. Brilliant

Re: Lion
I had a second viewing of Lion today as many Oscar winners are having a re-run in Odeon for a few days. I enjoyed it even more than the first time. Friends have recently returned from India and after listening to their experiences it has made me appreciate this film even more. Marks 9/10

Re: Lion
Saw this over the weekend. An interesting if slightly long film I thought but worth watching for the fact that it is based on a true story. Good performances all round as well I felt. 8/10.
