Fifty Shades Darker

#1 Post by prettyxcool » Tue Feb 14, 2017 10:52 pm

Well a chance to go to the premiere, and it surely cannot be as bad as the first? Plus Jamie is good to ogle! This is probably a very marmite film, between fans of E L James and those who are not. Is this what young females fantasise about in this day and age? Swept of their feet by a billionaire? Make wild and passionate love with etc. etc?

After much queuing and standing in the fan pen and watching the red carpet, we were finally given glossy tickets to go in.

Got pretty good seats right at the front in the middle. Erica L James, the author came on stage followed by the cast and the director. She spoke for a minute, and then they went.

Finally, the film. It was a bit better than the first which I thought was a yawn feast. It had no story, this has a bit more, but it is really badly told and so predictable, saw the boss's sexual advances a mile off. The helicopter crash was hilarious, The romance is corny and cheesy, Mills and Boons escapist fantasy. But both Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are good to look at, but shame the script and acting is so dull. There is no intimacy, sexiness or erotism. The stalker girl and Kim Basinger does give it a bit more interest, but they do not get to do much.

There was not as much of the boring sadistic soft porn as the first film. There is a bit more back story, which helps you to understand the character of Christian Grey.

The audience laughed during the dramatic and romantic parts, and there was a big cheer and applause when a topless Jamie is exercising astride a gymnastics horse.

My friend and I went to see this on Thursday . . .only because it was costing nothing using my Odeon Limitless Card and my Cea card. First of all, we were the only two people there! It's a shame that so many other films either have their runs cut short or limited screening times when the distributors swamp the cinema with this kind of film . . or really any big blockbuster.
Well . . .what can I say? Not a great deal! . . .and that's unusual for me! As 2 middle aged ladies we watched the film and both agreed that somewhere in it there was a story that could have been a film or book without the sex. It is overly graphic and we both agreed that we would have concerns for young girls watching this thinking this is how relationships should be . . .almost every relationship is strange in some way in the film.
I've no idea how the film compares to the book as I've never had any desire to read them . . .and still don't after watching the film.
I realise that my friend and I are probably not really in the targeted audience for the film or book but I can't ever imagine me recommending either to anyone.
Marks 5/10
ps Jamie Dornan as eye candy was the only positive part to the film!

Compared with Secretary another film about BDSM with Maggie Gyllenhaal, it is daring too about dominance and submission, but so brilliantly performed and scripted, albeit a comedy.

Recently, I caught the tale end of a documentary about the book, Fifty Shades of Grey, its effect it is having and what it shows about 21st-century Britain. Apparently, it is the fastest selling paperback book of all time, although the author could not find any publishers to publish at the time, as it is so badly written, she had to write on the internet and publish it that way. It was banned in some libraries in the States as it was classed as erotic. They showed the book where they had to tag the pages where erotism occurs and it was on every page! :shifty:

It would be good to hear the views of fans. Any out there on FMUK?

I thought the whole point of this rubbish was the sex and the bdsm. Without it there is no story. I swear I saw a totally different film because I wouldn't class it as graphic either.

I certainly don't think it is erotica either as it's badly written and poorly portrayed whereas Secretary is far superior in every way.
