Paramount Studios are far away if you live the other side of London, but with a promise of food and drinks, and an oscar winning film, I made the trek! It was hosted by Angie Greaves, the Radio DJ from Magic and Blogger of Feeling Fab website, who was ever so lovely and welcoming, all her team was.

An African-American family drama, brilliantly performed but a bit too long and tedious as a film. It still feels very much like a play with plenty of monologue, which becomes too monotonous, although thoughtful and emotional.

Denzel Washington is the bitter, selfish husband and father who will not accept that the world has moved on and denies his son a chance to succeed as a black man in a white society, because he himself did not succeed in the racist past.

You can see why Viola Davies won the BAFTA Award for supporting actress, she is brilliant as the wife and mother, and every woman will feel her heartbreak.

Good performances from all the other supporting cast too from his son to his mentally disturbed brother, to his friend and colleague, and the little girl.

I was invited to this screening as well :) Was well worth the trip and was a lovely experience but I was disappointed with the movie. Like you, I definitely thought it was too long and felt much like watching a play rather than a film. Viola was great and although she was the best of the Oscar Best Supporting Actress nominations, I personally don't feel like her performance was Oscar worthy.

Yes, definitely a film of a play and I think I'd have preferred to have seen the play. That's not to say the performances here were not worthy of all the accolades they've been getting they were, I just didn't feel I was watching a film unfold before my eyes as I like to see. It was like a set on stage and the constructed environs helped the story as a play more than on the big screen. It reminded me of watching Death iof a Salesman in the theatre. I don't know if that's been made into a movie but they could make it and made it very similar to this. I really liked the ending, that was a scene that worked better on the big screen. Glad I saw it.
