Thanks for the review, I wasn’t that impressed by the trailers. Shame as I liked the idea of the film :(

Yes, good intentions but badly done....far too long and clunky dialogue. Shame!

Beate wrote:This was dire. Way too long and slow-paced. The entire movie is about a failed explorer who vanished trying to find a lost city in the jungle of Bolivia. Sienna Miller is trying to play a feminist heroine, but she's still the left-behind wife not allowed to go with him and reduced to looking after the children while he just disappears for years exploring, returns, produces another child, then disappears again for any length of time.

Zzzzzzzzz.....

4/10
Couldn't agree more, although I don't think Sienna was trying to play a feminist heroine, just a loyal wife. It was painfully slow and I'll never be watching it again.

5/10 for me

saw this last night in a packed screen, i did miss first 5min tho (what is it with VUE randomly having only 10min of ads/trailers instead of the standard/for them/25min)

i really liked it, had that early 1980s film "look", yes it is a bit long but it covers a few years

7.5/10

I thought overall this film was good. It had good actors , although it wasn't a huge budget I think it was entertaining. I knew a little bit of the background of the explorer and liked the little touch at the end that we will never know if it is true or not!! Overall I would recommend my friends to watch this.

I really liked this film especially as based on a true story. The cinematography was very good and found it entertaining. Worth a watch. 7/10

I was very hesitant about seeing this film given other reviews but decided to see today as it's not screening next week in Odeon cinemas near me.
I was prepared for a lengthy film but found I really enjoyed it. I knew in advance that it was a true story which I always enjoy as I do like to see the true story ending. The acting was generally good as was the costumes and scenery. I don't think I would have enjoyed this as much on a TV screen as it is definitely meant to be seen in a cinema.
Marks 7/10

This was so slow. Not the epic, I was expecting as advertised on its posters. It is based on a true story but it is just too plodding, in one long boring sequences of events repeating itself, goes on an expedition, wife gives birth while he is away, comes home, goes away, and wife gives birth again, interrupted by war... and so on!

Some good supporting performances from Sienna Miller, as his wife, and Robert Pattinson, as his companion Henry Costin, who held my interest. Col. Percy Fawcett, played by Charlie Hunnam is slow and measured. Such a shame the film did not do this remarkable story any favours, it could have been so much more.
6/10

On the other hand my OH really liked it, he gave it 8/10 that is high praise from him, as he does not give his marks freely.
A marmite film.
