I didn't expect to enjoy this, and I didn't enjoy it. I stayed till the end - unlike several others at the Odeon Leeds Bradford.

I'm glad I went, but I am very glad that I did not p*y for this, and am so looking forward to seeing the Rebound (which we got a trailer for) and Heartbreakers.... more up my street, I hope! :-)

BTW - the cinema - in one of the smaller screens - was very full at the Odeon Leeds Bradford.

Aaron's girlfriend Daphne was played by Elizabeth Moss who was in Mad Men and also The West Wing. She was the President's daughter in West Wing. And yes I also spotted Rose Byrne (Jackie Q) who was one of the leads in Damages. Obviously I watch too much TV. We thought there were a few laughs but it went on too long and got more and more obnoxious. But I have to admit Russell Brand was much better than I thought he would be. Mind you, my expectations were very low.

Glad to see prettyxcool at Cineworld Shaftesbury Ave. We finally found a direct way in that didn't involve having to walk all the way through the dreaded Trocadero which has to be one of the most depressing places in London.

I saw this on Sunday. There was a massive queue to get into the Vue but we finally got round and they held us in that bar area on the first floor for about 30 minutes. First I was getting excited as I thought it may be a free bar (we had that for House Bunny last year), but no such luck. People were p*ying for their drinks (how outrageous!). Guess it is the state of our economy.

They finally said that the screen would be open and there was a bit of a scrum to get up the escalator. Wasn't a screen I've been in before, think it was screen 8. By the time we got up there most of the seats at the front had gone - I guess people wanted to get a closer look at Russell Brand when he did his presentation. The back of the middle aisle had been reserved for VIPs and we managed to take some seats at the back but in the right aisle. Not one of the nicer screens at that Vue and it had a shoddy incline so I wasn't best pleased with our seats. Oh well.

Anyway it filled up more and more until there was a small number of people who couldn't find any seats. I did feel sorry for them as I thought they may have had to leave (which would have been out of order as they were counting the numbers quite carefully when we walked in). Plus the VIP seats had not been taken. Surely they could have let the 8 or so people take those seats - there were about 30 reserved. Well no such luck and those people were escorted out.

Two older dark haired women were allowed to sit in the VIP section and I said to my friend "I wonder if they are Russell Brand's relatives". Anyway as we were debating this, who walks in - Noel Gallagher and his girlfriend. Ooh I thought and I turned to the guy next to me (no idea who he was) and said, hey Noel Gallagher is here! We had a little chat about that and then he said, back to me - oh look David Walliams is here and we had a chat about that. He tried to tell his friend who looked quite disinterested so he turned back to me and we both looked to the door to see who else would be joining us. The VIP section then filled up with a few more people, some of whom turned out to be extras from the film. Once they all took their seats, the organisers finally let those people who had not been able to find seats back in. They probably got the best seats for their trouble, middle aisle not too far from the back.

Russell came on with Jonah Hill, did a little speech (can't remember much about it, except them telling us how we would all be surprised how funny P Diddy / Puff Daddy is). There was a lady in a tiger hoodie (ears and everything!) and she jumped up and started making tiger growls and gestures towards Brand and Hill which was funny (come on - which fmuker was that?? - own up now!)

At the end of the presentation Brand took his seat at the back with his celebrity friends, not sure about Hill, I thought he joined them but others said he left (the screen went dark quite quickly so he probably did leave).

Now for the film itself. I think I preferred Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I thought it was worth watching but some of the jokes weren't as funny as I thought they would be. I thought Brand was good and it was strange seeing Rose Byrne play that role as I'm so used to seeing her act fairly straight-laced in Damages. It just felt wrong! I'd give it 7.5/10 but I think that is for the whole event, it did feel like a special screening.

that was Rose Byrne? i'd never have guessed, she was sooo different.

Good first hour, including a hilariously random fight in a club.
last half hour a bit stinky.
good performance at the end, bad lip synching from Brand. Hes a good comic performer, though perhaps not a good actor (he is basically himself in all his movies!)

8/10

I had been looking forward to seeing Get Him To the Greek for ages. So I was really pleased when I managed to get a ticket for tonight’s screening at the Metrocentre. The film seemed to start out OK and there were some good comedy moments initially but at some point I thought it went downhill and lost its way.

The film seemed to start out OK and there were some good comedy moments initially but at some point I thought it went downhill and lost its way.

Best performances in this were from Jonah Hill and Elisabeth Moss as Aaron and Daphne. But P. Diddy was surprisingly good as Sergio too. Russell Brand was… erm…just Russell Brand.

I was expecting there to be swearing and vulgarity and there was in abundance, but I was expecting it to at least be funny at the same time. When the humour evaporated part way through and all we were left with was the swearing and vulgarity there wasn’t really enough left in the films weak and predictable plot to hold much interest for me.

Even so, I would probably have given this film 5.5 out of 10 but for the Odeon’s blunder of setting the film away early, letting it run for a full 20 minutes and then restarting it again from the beginning including all the adverts and trailers.

I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s quite distracting and not much fun having to cover the same ground twice before being able to move on.

So it’s a lowly 4.5 out of 10 for the film from me, and (if I can be bothered) an email of complaint will be winging (wingeing?) its way to the Odeon for their operational incompetence. I feel like I've been mind FMUKd. I’m sure that the Silverlink wouldn’t treat its customers so shabbily! :p

It was better than I expected - quite humerous in places - dissapointed had to sit through first 20 mins again due to Odeon messup - not much to write really appart from 'is as trailer shows'.

I saw this last night, I thought it was hit and miss. There were some really funny bits like “Jeffrey” and “just keep stroking the wall”, I couldn’t stop laughing, but apart from those bits I thought it was a bit flat and I hated it when he was sick. I thought Puff Daddy was very funny, Russell Brand is not usually my cup of tea, but I thought he looked quite fit in the beanie, although it was hot in the cinema, so maybe I was hallucinating

6/10.

Just saw it this morning turned afternoon, I was excited when the Scott Pilgrim International Trailer was shown, so so so awesome.
And the first 10 minutes I was in hysterics.

But after that, well, I cared not for Jonah's character, Brand became annoying really quickly, people like Aziz Ansari and Kristen Schaal were wasted, and the film dragged on through dull set pieces that never had any comedy to them and were instantly forgettable. A groan inducing waste of time and money and talent, and when it chose to become a drama? Oh my word that was a complete step in the wrong direction.
