Re: Tangled
Shepherd's Bush. We got there early before the cinema was even open so went to have a cup of tea because we had time to kill. Humph - not impressed at all to enter the screening at 10:20 to discover it had already started. I assume we missed some background narration. Not too much of a problem for us adults, but it probably made it harder for the kids to understand.
I thought the animation was fab. I liked the depth to the screen and the use of interesting camera angles.
3D was once again completely unnecessary in my opinion. The film did have more depth but I think of 3D as something coming out of the screen and only the scene with the lanterns felt 3D to me.
I thought this was more of a traditional animation that was more for the kids than the adults. And there's nothing wrong with that. The songs were ok. At times I felt like I was watching an adaptation of a musical, the way the characters would fling their arms in the air and bellow out the song.
I don't think I'll recommend it to my childless friends, but it's lovely for families.
7/10

Re: Tangled
It's a bit of a trek to get there but we can go on the bus (though it can take up to an hour). When it's a choice between Shepherd's Bush and Greeneich at the weekend I'll take Shepherd's Bush as I expect the Jubilee line to be plagued by engineering works.valda wrote:Shepherds Bush had a big turn out from the FMUKers
We also went to Westfields, but only for an hour until we'd had enough!

Re: Tangled
The Jubilee Line was absolutely fine, LOL.
Re: Tangled
Saw the movie at Shepherd's Bush. Got there with plenty of time to spare so I was happy about the early start, but sorry for those who missed out because of it.
I saw The Princess and the Frog last year on TV and began losing faith in Disney. I grew up watching Disney cartoons and lately it seems like Disney has completely forgotten how to make them.
But man does this movie make up for it! I like that they told the story as a retelling of the classic and not just a parody of it. At first it made me think it would make the movie corny but they really pulled it off. The characters, the animation, the writing, and the way the story was made fun for both adults and children alike while maintaining the innocence a Disney movie should was brilliant. The only let-down were the songs. They felt unnecessary and were extremely forgettable (apart from the pub song which I found entertaining
). The 3D felt wasted too apart from the lantern scene (but I'm not a big 3D fan anyway so I may be acting a bit biased). Maximus and Pascal were amazing though, and easily made up for the complaints I had with the movie.
I think it's definitely a good movie to watch with family or even for those who still remember the older and better Disney movies. I really enjoyed it and so did my little sister. I would recommend watching it in a movie theatre but not in 3D. Kudos to Disney on their 50th animated feature.
8/10 for me.

Re: Tangled
I got to Vue Shepherd Bush just before 10am and there was a crowd of families waiting already and the shutters were down. At 10.00am, they opened up and everyone went in. I asked if I could wait inside for my friend who was running about 10 minutes late, and they said no problem, and they took his name, and told me not to worry as they would start 15 minutes late to allow for people running late. Then, about five minutes later, a lady came into Screen 9 and apologised for the wait and that the film will start at quarter past. I think they thought the film was meant to start at 10am. Also, luckily, I got a text from Beate about the film being 3D, and realised that I had not been given any glasses, so had to run back out to get them! When I got back valda had arrived and then shortly after MrGlass. We were just going to have a conversation, when the lights went down, and we thought it was trailers as it was only 10.15am, but it was not, the film was starting. And then, of course, families were still coming in expecting a 10.30am start. Definitely need to complain.
Tangled was fun and entertaining. A new modern take on the story but nevertheless still enjoyable. Not sugary sweet as I expected, but very smash bang wallop action and adventure. Damsel in distress is portrayed so much more stronger and feisty! Love it. Also, loved all the characters especially Maximus and his dedication to pursue Eugene, so funny. The songs were not that memorable, except the pub one which was quite humorous. Agree not very much 3D except the lanterns which looked liked floating large marshmallows to me, and we in the back row including the children tried to grab a few as they floated towards us. Also, agree it is a lovely start to the year.
