I thought it was going to be a typical Hollywood rom-com...and to a degree it was, however it did have an edge to it and the acting by both Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway was great.
It was better than I expected and I really enjoyed it.

Probably a pointless question, but has anyone whose Tuesday 28 preview was messed up and who e-mailed SFF, received a reply? Needless to say I haven't, despite e-mailing two SFF addresses, being very polite, and acknowledging that I've generally done very well through them and never had a problem before.

Wish I knew where their office was so I could go in person (or write RD) and ask what it takes to extract a response from them...

I think you might have to wait until the New Year unfortunately...

I wouldn't mind waiting if I did get a (reasonable) reply in the end, but you never know with them - they may already have read and deleted mine.

I also sent SFF a long e-mail but maybe I should have sent it to the Admin address as I used the "Help" one (which we know doesn't usually elicit a response) and got an automated reply saying they were very busy. I didn't expect them to be working over the BH weekend anyway but maybe I'll copy my e-mail to that address. I was very polite...

I went to see this at Derby, but 'snowman2k' if you arrived at 10:40-ish then you wouldn’t have missed much as it had only started about 2 mins or so before that. Derby isn’t too bad usually and free previews are normally a breeze there, but on Sunday they did mess up a bit. Anyone that had arrived before 10:30 were told it was in screen 2 only to be told about 10:35 that it was actually being shown in screen 9. Then it started not long after that, and due to the mess up with the time for the next 10-15 mins noisy people were still drifting in after the film had started. If I’d arrived after the film had started then I would have complained because having travelled from Nottingham to Derby I wouldn’t have been a happy bunny missing the start.

To be honest when the film started I did wonder if it was starting early – before 11 – or whether the scheduled time was for 10:30, having handed in the tickets i couldn't remember the start time.

I thought the film was really good and not the usual romantic comedy. It was refreshing to see a serious side to this type of film and the story finished at the right time rather than darkened the moment.

I had quite high expectations for this as I do like most Jake Gyllenhaal films. I found it fairly enjoyable but I didn't love the storyline to be honest. I thought Gyllenhaal and Hathaway had decent chemistry and was rooting for them. Kept on thinking I had seen them in a romantic situation before and it took me awhile to remember she was his wife in Brokeback Mountain. There was more nudity than I expected, but I found it ok and fitting for the tone of the film.

7/10 - it was good but I was expecting great things and I don't think it is a great film.

I too think 7/10
found it a little bit schizophrenic, in that it didn't know which genre it wanted to follow and tried to fit into several at once. the saving grace for a messy script were the fab performances by the 2 leads. it won't be a watch it again and again one for me but i am glad i saw it. I believe they were together in bride wars too. :)

I thought that this was really quite a good film. Unlike some other folk have commented, I actually enjoyed the blend of romance, comedy and more serious elements. I thought the balance of light and shade worked well, and couldn't see a problem with the mix of genres.

I agree with those that commented on the obvious product placement issues around beer and drugs, but I wasn't in the least offended by it just surprised at how much there was. There was a good chemistry between Jamie and Maggie and I liked (in a cringworthy sort of a way) Josh Gadd as Jamie's obnoxious brother.

It's an 8 out of 10 film in my book. :D
