Saw this tonight and was hugely disappointed. I know i'll be in the minority on this, but I don't care. Just totally unintersting and non-sensical. If this were meant to be a horror, it'd be cheesy, but since it's not meant to be, it's artistic? The shaky camera really got on my nerves. I don't mind it when it fits in with a film but it stuck out like a sore thumb here. Yes, Portman gives a great performance, but it's a shame we're not given any reason to really care about her character. I hated the end. Totally ridiculous. Or maybe it was all in her head... whichever, I don't care. This film is far more about ballet than The Fighter is about boxing and perhaps I'm just not cultured enough but I found it all to be a real bore. Yes, ballet dancers have to rehearse a lot, I get it, but not even ballet patrons sit through rehearsals. Just not my cup of tea at all. 5.5/10 for Portman's performance and the score, even if it was overly dramatic sounding at points where the film was faaaar less so.

I really want to see this. My 15 year old went who does both ballet and Pointe - she thought it was good but very gory.

I'm going to see it tonight in Paramount International, can't wait
And I'm home now very disappointed to be honest. People at the screening were laughing out loud at some of it.

I thought most of the dialogue was corny as hell, lots of the scenes were from other films, Repulsion and Showgirls come to mind instantly. LOL the thing that was annoying me most was the Director reminded me of Mark from Holby aka Jesus of Nazareth 8O
7/10 for some of the effects towards the end
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Saw this film yesterday evening and loved it. A ballet based thriller...unusual but wonderfully played by the actors, in particular Natalie Portman, whom I am sure will get the best actress Oscar for this part.

Natalie Portman was fantastic in this as Nina, as was Barbara Hershey who played her very controlling former ballerina mother Erica. At times it was quite a chilling tale and in my opinion, for one very brief moment, it was even more gory than "127 hours". Nail clipping will never quite feel the same again. 8O

As Soonforgotten has already mentioned, the shaky camerawork was a distraction that would have been better avoided. I did enjoy the film, but not as much as I thought I would.

I give it 7.5 out of 10.

And yet it gets an Oscar nom for cinematography. I really don't get that.

My OH really, really wanted to see this so we went on the Orange Wednesday last night and tried to use our Odeon voucher to p*y for one, but no can do. Our local Odeon was sold out, so we had to race up to Swiss Cottage, luckily it was only 10 minutes away by car and it was packed there too.

Unfortunately, this psycho drama thriller did nothing for me. It was heavy and harrowing, yet quite beautiful, but felt rather patchy with a cliched story, overbearing mother, love triangle etc. Starts of slow, and builds up, with some very graphic horror, which I along with a lot of the audience gasped and I could not watch. The performances and visuals were spot on though, so for that 6.5/10
