anyone watching should see HBO On Crack Street first, this is a true life documentary that stars Dikie Ecklund, from the early 1990s

I really did enjoy this movie.

It really gets you rooting for the main character, and your screaming at him inside your head when he makes a wrong move!

highly recoemnd

I loved that movie!
Saw this tonight at a packed Cineworld in Edinburgh with a few of the Edinburgh FMUK posse.

Gobsmacking performance from Christian Bale as older brother Dickie. He doesn't just become his charachter, he seems to inhabit him, quite mesmerising. Generally excellent supporting roles all round to be truthful and can see why they are getting the gong nods. Amy Adams and Melissa Leo were also amazing. Other supporting roles noteable of a mention and which raised several out loud laughs in Edinburgh were the truly amazing hairspraytastic hairdos of Mickey's 7 sisters!!!

And Mark Walberg, yes he was good but he didn't quite live up to the heavyweight acting of those around him, but I was just very happy to sit for 2 hours watching his torso!!

Seriously, not just for the blokes or the boxing fans, this is a seriously good movie.

9/10 from me.

Agree with all Alythonian said. Loved the film altho not a boxing fan.

Christian Bale was amazing. So believable in the role and you were just wishing he could turn his life around. Let's hope he gets the Oscar for this performance.

Best film of the year so far.

Cheers for this, I'll definitely be watching it.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Seen this at the Gate tonight....... LOVED IT!

Only went for Mark Wahlberg but Christian Bale stole the show. Emotional, edgy and funny.. just brilliant.

9/10 :O)

Saw this tonight at an unpacked (20% full) Slough Empire. First time I have ever been to the pictures at Slough.

I am not a boxing fan but we all loved it, my eyes swelled up a couple of times and when he won the fights I wanted to jump up and clap! But, I was saying 'yes' and doing a clenched fist arm type of movement.

I did cringe when the fights were taking place as I thought I could feel the pain.

I thought Marky Mark and Christian Bale were both fab and the sisters cracked me up.
