Re: Sucker Punch
They had a TV crew and models dressed up as the characters in Shep Bush... No-one I saw stopped to give a review after the film though - they seemed desperate to get someone!

Re: Sucker Punch
Cardiff was a 'no seat left' occassion.
After the bizzar conversations I have in work with people, the 'fantasy' in the film is mild. OH fell asleep - again! How he managed it with all the loud music god only knows. His review - American rubbish.
It did feel like being in a game, very violent and no remorse. I however, found myself enjoying it, includes the Music, the action etc 7/10

Re: Sucker Punch
Went to Edinburgh Omni as they didn't show this in Glasgow. OH had to train it. Sat with some friends in a pretty much full cinema. Not sure why they made us queue in the foyer until 5 minutes before film started.
Film itself was enjoyable but then I came with the expectation of lack of plot, girls in not much clothing, fighting in a comic style. I actually thought the beginning was pretty good before she ended up in the asylum. And with the whole reality and fantasy part it was made easy with the different shades of colouring in the film. Reality being very pale and sterile, whilst the first fantasy in the club being more coloured and the second fantasy being more anime. OH was totally bored throughout whilst some of my friends were confused with all this. Why on earth did anyone think getting a girl to dance would make things happen? Definitely a male fantasy made into a film. Scott Glenn had all the good lines. Go in with a low expectation and let yourself be taken in with the fantasy. 7/10

Re: Sucker Punch
It reminded me more of "Pan's Labyrinth" (rather than Inception), except that there were 2 levels of fantasy.wolverina2411 wrote:Wow this movie is bizarre!! But I do like the idea of dream in dream kind of world (a bit the bad version of inception), but I guess it's Babydoll escapism. I might be the odd one out here, but towards the end, I started to enjoy the action and shared her sadness and rebellion. I guess cause I stop thinking and started enjoying.the CGI is great.... ohhh and my OH said, "Do we just watch a video games?"
he's a anime, CGI and effects jock and he enjoyed the movie just for those reasons

Re: Sucker Punch
this is a crap movie. what a wasted opportunity. not just in terms of bad script and acting, even the fight scenes were crap and lacked any coherent set of physical laws - one minute you can block a giant samurai's blow and the next the same strike sends you fifty feet into the air (you'd expect good fights in a movie like this, wouldnt you? Emily Browning was pathetic in her fights, like an expensive model trying to throw punches). And as I feared, no parameters set as to what the characters could do in the movie. They simply couldnt lose if they could magic up anything to knock over a fifty foot tall ninja, so whats the point? Its Matrix 2 all over again.
There were a few intriguing 'fantasy' scenes, where different genres are melded together - a 'Lord of the Rings' world gets fused with a World War 2 setting at one point and the girls run amok gunning down orcs and goblins- wouldnt you just love to see Bilbo Baggins pull out a machine gun in a huffy fit and blow away Gollum and co?
The rendered worlds were painstakingly well detailed, but if thats all I wanted in a movie I'd just hook up my hypothetical xbox to my projector and play Fallout or something similar (i dont have an xbox, btw). But you need more than that to make a decent 2 hour film. I left before the end and walked into Burlesque, which was a better movie, and thats saying something!

Re: Sucker Punch
I had my IMAX experience. Big screen, big surround sound! Shame about the film, although I half enjoyed it and half did not. If you like video games, you would probably like this, but I got a bit bored in the middle as it was so repetitive, then I went along with the fantasy ride so it all seems ok then, but thought the music was just too overbearing. The story was so full of holes, but compensated by the stunning CGI. The Q&A before the film did not fare any better, Zack Snyder droned on and on for half an hour answering just TWO questions! I almost fell asleep. Then the guy hosting, said we have time for one more question, and someone said "this may be a crap question, but are you going to do a slow film", and I thought he was being sarcastic, as a reference to Zack Snyder droning on and on - he must love the sound of his own voice. At the end he said we must be the most informed audience for the film, informed about what I have no idea.
The IMAX was packed and it was a strange experience having the screen so big, I felt I was sitting too close although I was sitting third row from the back.
And when Annie Lennox was singing Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" you get a shot of "Lennox House" - subtle not!
The OH gave it 9/10 - he would, all those close ups and big eyelashes! Very anime and manga. 5/10 from me, mostly for the IMAX experience, and the interesting chat with the guy next to me.

Re: Sucker Punch
I have to admit - I liked it! Wouldn't say I understood it completely. Kinda lost track of which blonde was which. Lol. From a fantasy point of view was awesome. Great imagery. Looked just like a good game. I would say not CGI but CGM - computer generated movie!
Awesome soundtrack!
Pity my nose was literally almost touching the screen in a full to bursting Edinburgh. What were they thinking though letting parents take in a couple of 5-6 year old girls? Some of those images must surely be giving them nightmares as we speak!
Enjoyable silliness!
