Saw this tonight at Slackers preview at Stratford East, Picturehouse. To the busiest Slackers showing I have been to.
It's a light and likeable film. 7/10

Re: Warm Bodies
A true blagger - master at work! I managed to blag my way into a sold out screening at 11.30 at night!
It did help that I asked nicely as well as b*ying a drink for myself at the bar so that the cinema felt they were getting something from me in return. Was initially told that they'd let me in 10 - 15 minutes into the film if there were any no-shows, but I was in there before the trailers finished and had a whole row all to myself! Result.
What a really superb film. I loved it. A perfect blend of humour and horror. Let's face it - Nicholas Hoult doesn't have to act to play a zombie. He has the same jerky wooden puppety mannerisms that he had in Skins so fits in perfectly. His R-Patz American accent takes some getting used to as well. It is a well paced action movie with some rom included in the com. I can see Twihards being satisfied. I have to admit that it appears to be a one-off so no anticipated sequels/trilogies. The students were kept amused all the way through with lots of laugh out loud parts and plenty of smiles, ending ultimately with a round of applause as the credits rolled - always a mark of respect for anything where there is no-one actually there to receive the acclaim.
Enjoy!

Re: Warm Bodies
Am I the only one who loved the music in it? I did think at one point Michael Jackson's thriller was going to play lol
I also spent a great deal of the film trying to think what his name might be and when the penny dropped I hit my companion's arm and shouted it out.
The balcony scene where he is looking up at Julie, he is obviously Romeo.
Very funny, a novel take on the Zombie story with great performances from Hoult and Teresa Palmer.

I nearly mentioned the music too but was thinking of the incidental music. I'd forgotten about his vinyl collection that played a lot. I loved that.

Re: Warm Bodies
I can't believe Picturehouse Greenwich was actually entirely full, but it was! And "lucky" me was of course stuck behind the one person who had such a high hair up do that she was easily a head taller than anyone else in the screening room, partly obscuring my view... Why can't people not just be a bit more considerate?? I moved one seat over to get a better view but unfortunately there were two loud latecomers who had that seat and the one next to it reserved so I had to move back, grrr.
Anyway, the film. I understand what they were trying to do with the "comedy" but unfortunately none of the obvious jokes got many laughs from the audience in the first half making it a bit of a tedious start. However, when they slowly shifted away from this to an actual storyline I got mighty intrigued and I really started enjoying myself.
There was a lot of discontinuity though which was a bit annoying. I know this was all taking in humour and with a big grain of salt, but some form of realism would've been nice. Ie.:
- How on earth can people that have been dead for so long come back alive without any physical issues?
- Sometimes zombies were super slow, other times they could suddenly run...
- What about awkward reunions from people who killed relatives in front of still living ones?
- Everybody just went along with the zombies integrating back into society?
- Was there really only one city with a "wall" left in the world?
- Where did R's scars go?
- What was with the blood on Julie's face so the other zombies wouldn't sense her being alive? Couldn't she have left the airport using that?
- More details about Julie's mum please... And the swift change in character of her father.
- Etc.
The Romeo and Juliet plot was kind of obvious to me, particularly considering the other main names (Perry/Paris, Marcus/Mercutio, Nora/Nurse).
In the end I really did enjoy the film a lot, when trying to think not too hard about the plot... But I wish the actual story got going sooner as the first half did feel rather slow and when it finally got interesting the film was already over (it was very short). I also wanted more scenes with the smaller characters as I loved M and Nora. M in particular, who has the best line in the whole film:
"Bitches, hey?"
Agree that the music in this film was great! Btw, can't believe this was just a 12A. Despite the zombie/skeletons trying to be a humorous aspect of the film, they were really quite creepy, especially when they were eating and such

I hadn't noticed it was a 12a, the scene were the bony was eating a body and a piece dropped down was a little gruesome.canadian_turtle wrote:I can't believe Picturehouse Greenwich was actually entirely full, but it was! Re: Warm Bodies
Brilliant. What an unexpected delight. And awesome music. Any film with the excellent "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen in it has my vote. But it was funny and it was romantic and I loved the happy ending. A sweet take on "Love heals the world". Nicholas Hoult has come far since "About a Boy"! Now, where do I know Perry from?
Lovely to see so many FMUKers and meet martadelas (again).
