Absolutely adored The Hobbit when I went to see it. IMAX 3D and they managed to get the level of content just right I felt. I know a lot of reviewers have said that its dragged but considering the level of detail they went to I was happy with it. Plus I believe that the 3rd part will be less of what happens in The Hobbit and more of the appendices and the bridge between The Hobbit and LOTR.

Although I did find the film a bit long and drawn out, I still appreciated that it was beautifully epic and lays the foundations to a great story. I am so keen to see how the journey progresses.

I am intrigued to see it in 48 fps but while I enjoyed it, I am not sure if liked it enough to p*y to see it again so soon after a first viewing. Perhaps if a few cinemas show it before the second film is released I will treat myself, to refresh my memory so I can see how they flow into one another. A solid 8/10 for me.

Believe it or not, I had managed to get through the last decade without watching any of the Lord of the Rings films 8O . I just never got round to it, plus it always seemed like a genre that I wasn't very keen on in any case. And once I missed the release of the first film, I just thought 'meh' - I realised it is not the type of trilogy where you can jump in on the second or third movie and really appreciate what is going on (I wonder how many people found that out the hard way).

Well, I now know what I was missing. The films were repeated on channel 4 recently and I have to say that I appreciated watching The Hobbit first. There is also something to be said about watching the LOTR films so closely together. They really feel like one long thread. Feel I have used my extra time over the Christmas holidays well. :D

I too watched Lord of the rings this Christmas, although I could have spent my time better by revising for my final year of uni. Anyways, I went to watch the Hobbit last week, and I did not find it long at all. In fact, the time went far too quickly and I just cannot wait to see the next part, and the one after that. Seeing how Bilbo go the ring in the first place makes it just that much easier to understand LoTR.

Overall, I give it a 9/10

That's a no brainer; LOTR by a mile and a half.

I don't think you can really say yet as The Hobbit is only one film in yet. Besides, The Hobbit was written for children whereas LOTR was written for adults, there are always going to be fundamental differences that are going to make it not comparable.
If I was to compare an Unexpected Journey with the Fellowship I would have to go with Unexpected Journey.

I had an 02 priority moments code that was due to expire today and I didn't want to waste it so ended up seeing this for the 3rd time, which is 2 times too many. It really doesn't hold up well to repeat viewing. It just feels longer and more drawn out each time I watch it! Best part is still the riddles with Gollum but it does feel a bit like a series of set pieces one after the other with a lack of focus in the narrative. 7/10

I agree a wee bit drawn out. Confusing I need a who's who guide.

Who is Gollum talking to? It did add some excitement to the film!

Ace Scenery, some laughs along the way.

Is there going to be a follow on production as it ended suddenly?

Saw in 2D (last minute dash with o2 Priority code)

Saw this a few weeks ago and I have to see I don't know why it has gotten so much criticism!! Felt it was the perfect length, included everything they needed to out of the book and indulge certain parts that helped round the story! Martin Freeman was born to play the role of Bilbo! Andy Serkis once again is awesome as Gollum and all the Dwarves (well the ones that were giving more screentime) were excellently cast.

Saw it HFR IMAX 3D and although took a while to get used to (Old Bilbo looked like he was on fast forward when running around his hobbit hole) I felt it added to the overall experience and definitely enhanced the 3D. Rivendell especially looked fantastic.

I give this a 9/10 and was def in my top 5 movies of 2012!

I saw this again on Friday after a surprise invite from my little brother (he's 11 years old) who I suspect asked me so he could finally see it himself, lol. I always think my grasp of the English language is very good but I did notice that while I didn't read the Dutch subtitles all the time, this time around I did understand more details/jokes than I initially did, because of the added subtitles. I also appreciated the film much more on its own, rather than an extension of LOTR and stopped comparing it to the previous trilogy. Finally, I think seeing it in regular 3D from the back row instead of IMAX 3D near the front was actually better for the quality as there were no blurred scenes or movements for me now (difference could also be because the 3D glasses etc are different back in the Netherlands), all adding to the enjoyment. 10/10
