Re: Kick-Ass
I started reading the original comic for this and there is a heck of a lot more swearing in that than in the movie :o
Re: Kick-Ass
it was very packed at the metrocentre tonight. are you ready people, I'm going to say something I don't say very often....... I LOVED IT !!!!!
Sadsack2 came with us and he loved it too, and he said he found it a lot less offensive and distasteful than Phillip Morris. Thought it was great, quirky, different, very visual and a great soundtrack. The bit I found most distrubing was when the little girl was doing her fighting in her school uniform that looked really odd. we also loved playing "ooooh now what's that actors' name again?" superduper 9.75/10 from us. oh and the boyf made me snort my coke out when he summed it up at the end by saying rather matter of factly "well it was good but y'know some of it won't be possible in real life" the mind boggles!

Re: Kick-Ass
I'm not quite sure exactly how I feel about this film.
The comic was a masterpiece that tricked you into thinking it was simply guilty pleasure entertainment.
The movie was only ever going to be guilty pleasure entertainment.
Which is fine. But the fact that the film was developed at the same time as the comic causes some friction between the final products.
Say what you will about Wanted, the last adaptation of a Millar comic. Sure it changed a lot (even the basic premise itself!) but Bekmambetov and co. understood what Millar was trying to get across, and you can see it in the movie. Kick-Ass, on the other hand, is the most ideologically flawed film I've seen since Harry Brown. Vaughn and Goldman present a borderline fascist "with no power comes great responsibility" message at the same time as including scenes from the comic that show how ridiculous Dave Lizewski is. The two just don't fit together.
Further, there can be little doubt that Vaughn and Goldman aren't nearly as good writers as Millar. What's added, or changed, is for the most part hugely inferior. Ludicrous. Clichéd as apple pie. The worst offender was the McGuyver "is that what I think it is?" towards the end. They set that one up nicely and when they revealed what it was it backfired massively - it's a miracle the movie didn't collapse, given that it's supposed to be realistic. And the whole tone, too. Where the comic was edgy with its satiric oil-black humour, the movie felt cheesy.
However, in the movie's favour, Vaughn fared much better in directing. I was hugely impressed with the set piece where Kick-Ass first wins. In setting it up, the editing clashes of innocent superhero reaching for a cat, and gritty handheld-cam chase would have made Eisenstein proud. One style ultimately wins out and our hero is thrown into a bloody reality where you feel every punch. Many of the other action scenes were really great, and despite many weaknesses the story Millar provided is still great and I can say without doubt that it's a great popcorn movie.

Re: Kick-Ass
Just watched this in Nottingham, thanks to this forum
Best film i have seen in ages.
Funny, emotional, action packed ..good story.
The little girl does a fantastic job in it, i was sceptical when i saw trailers ... but she really pulled off the part.
Will be b*ying it when it goes to DVD.
Looking forward to number 2

Re: Kick-Ass
Kick Ass - Metrocentre was packed.
FANTASTIC MOVIE - humourous, emotional, gripping, disgustingly gruesome in places, heartpoundingly suspenseful, brilliantly casted and graphicially stunning...
What more can I say? Appart from the fact i felt a bit sick on the way out - I LOVED this movie - best freebie I have had yet!!!

kick ass
I should have known what to expect from the opening scenes. This was a film which tried to make some really horrible violence comical but it did not succeed for me and to see a young girl participating in this was, for me, unacceptable.

Re: kick ass
Personally, I thought the film was fantastic. I wish people would stop wingeing about Hit Girl. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Surly you can tell what the film will be like from the trailers.
