Resistance
Re: Resistance
I'm convinced, I've decided not to go.
I'll probably watch the first 2 episodes of The Killing instead, which sounds like it uses it's slower pace to much better effect.
I've put my two tickets for Manchester on the Offered board if anyone is interested.

Lots of lingering looks, walks in the Welsh landscape happening almost in real-time, dead animals, freezing cold and not much else...

Does that mean you went to see it (or not)canadian_turtle wrote:Well at least I got to catch up on some sleep!

I must admit I did have 40 winks at one point myself had a hard day at work!
Pretty full at Trafford Centre today, surprisingly.
My main gripe was all the subtitles as I couldnt read half of them due to the screen being so low and having a tall person in front of me.

Re: Resistance
It means that I attempted to see it but I mostly saw the inside of my eyes.
Iwan Rheon was pretty. The landscapes were pretty. But dear god was the rest boring!

Re: Resistance
Well I went to tonight's screening at Mayfair Hotel. Only because my friend wanted to see it and in a sick way I wanted to see if they had improved the film at all. I waved to c_t and was going to sit with her but my friend found two seats on the end of a row and decided to sit there, unfortunately, there was a large man in front of me blocking my view so the whole film I had to watch round his head! Also what is it with people giving a running commentary? i.e. that's a flashback, that's a dream. The people in the row behind, was doing just that and rustling of sweet wrappers, finally, I turned and glared at them and they stopped, thankfully.
The pace was still too slow, although slightly better than the test screening, then it was painfully slow. It is still a very bleak and cold film, much like the winter in the story. My friend who is normally very good at understanding films was totally confused. On a second viewing, I am still confused by the same bits, and still could not hear some of the dialogue. There are so many sub-plots that do not go anywhere and just confuses, that I can't give more than I gave last time for the test screening. 3/10.

Re: Resistance
I saw this tonight at a quite full Trafford Centre. Thanks to the guy who got up and shut the door as the light from the corridor obscured the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
I have to agree, I also found Andrea Riseborough annoying keep staring into the middle distance. The concept was good but it just didn't deliver for me, I kept waiting for something to happen. Waste of some good actors.

Re: Resistance
I must have missed prettyxcool at the Mayfair Hotel, I sat near the back and thought it was an interesting screening room! Before the film started I went to the toilet and saw an absolutely smashed guy leaning over one of the urinals. I crept into a cubical and locked the door but he was so drunk that he kept on falling on the door, it was really scary. On a thursday night too! I alerted the steward who looked like he'd heard the same thing minutes prior and the guy tried to sit down in the cinema but got pulled out! It was quite ridiculous.
Anyway, to the film. The IMDB summary had convinced me that this was some kind of supernatural thriller and it was a bit of a shock when I read the opening title card displaying the "failure" of D-Day. This lazy changing of history is integral to the story yet lacks any backstory which is desperately needed. As such, I wasn't terribly interested in the film, and its slow pacing definitely didn't help. It was somewhat redeemed by my friend's comment that
the Nazis had killed the husbands
because I didn't realise this before; it definitely warrants a second viewing, but on first opinions I wasn't completely impressed, even if the film has some great visual sequences. 5/10
