Oh dear, looks as though any fisherfolk who shell out to see this film will be unhappy. I've heard that they've used the wrong rods and the wrong fish

I must admit that I know nothing about that side of things so it didn't affect my enjoyment of the film

Ewan McGregor's accent sounded very false to me and just read in the Sunday papers that he based his accent on a distant cousin who lives in Morningside. (The "posh" part of Edinburgh). Don't think my relatives in Morningside sound like that. He would have been better sticking to his own accent.

Westerhailes was full and we got a book as we came in - but only one book per ticket, not one per person.

I have heard that the ending of the film (which I've just seen) is different from the book (which I read ages ago and have forgotten). Maybe someone can 'spoiler' it for me?

I absolutely adored this film! It was sweet, charming; just delightful. The leads were perfect for the roles and I didn't notice anything wrong with McGregor's accent (I love Scottish accents in general so was more flailing about it than anything else) or the fish used (though if they were wrong that is some bad research about the primary part of the film), so that didn't bother me in the slightest. Particularly loved all the scenes with Fred, Harriet and the Sheikh, they had wonderful chemistry. And Kristin Scott Thomas was hilarious. Loved the quirkiness of the text on the screen and the very funny IM chats too.

It was a perfect film for a Sunday morning and I finally get the Ewan McGregor love now

first of all

HUGE THANKS TO BIGGINS FOR KEEPING SEATS!!

got caught up in the Edinburgh 1/2 Marathon Traffic so arrived quite late, but lots of latecomers after film started which quite distracting.

Loved the film and yes not many Scottish people I know speak like that,but really enjoyed the film.
and enjoyed the press Secretary thought she was a hoot.

Looking forward to reading my free book as was about to start another one but will put that on hold as interested to see what ending in the book is

Cameo in Edinburgh was packed this morning too.
No problems getting there so I'm guessing the marathon was somewhere near the west of the city if other got held up at the Wester Hailes screening. No free book at the Cameo though :-(

I really enjoyed this. Best film of the year so Far for me I think and by far the best Ewan McGregor film in years. I thought his posh accent was fairly close to many I've heard in Edinburgh, certainly nothing like his own accent, but certainly nowhere near as distracting as some of the dire American ones he's tried in the past.

Anyway, really enjoyed the film, the characters, the acting, the scenery, the british humour.

9/10 from me.

Haha. But you are an Alythonian. You must speak Alythonian. I am from and went to school in Morningside. His accent wasn't too bad (but not perfect). Bear in mind that Morningside ladies think that sex is what coal is delivered in! And a creche is what one has when one collides with another car.

POint taken, being from the same part of the world as Mr McGregor my accent is remarkably similar to his real voice.
of course, Stuartboy, lucky if you could find a real Morningsider in Morningside these days! McGellatly, Fred'd wife Mary in the film may well have been allegedly from Bearsden!
